Julia Measuring Up
I grew up in a northeastern suburban town, and I’ve lived in the same house for my entire life. My father is a lawyer, and my mother is the assistant principal at our town’s high school. My sister, Holly, is 4 years younger than I am.
My parents have been married for almost 20 years. Aside from the usual sort of disagreements, they get along well. In fact, I would say that my entire family gets along well. We’re not particularly touchy-feely: It’s always a little awkward when we have to hug our grandparents on holidays, because we just never do that sort of thing at home. That’s not to say that my parents are uninterested or don’t care about us. Far from it; even though they both have busy work schedules, one of them would almost always make it to my track and cross-country meets and to Holly’s soccer games. My mother, in particular, has always tried to keep on top of what’s going on in our lives.
In high school, I took advanced-level classes and earned good grades. I also got along quite well with my teachers, and ended up graduating in the top 10 percent of my class. I know this made my mother really proud, especially since she works at the school. She would get worried that I might not be doing my best and “working to my full potential.” All through high school, she tried to keep on top of my homework assignments and test schedules. She liked to look over my work before I turned it in, and would make sure that I left myself plenty of time to study for tests.

My father is a lawyer, and my mother is the assistant principal at our town’s high school. My sister, Holly, is 4 years younger than I am. My parents have been married for almost 20 years. Aside from the usual sort of disagreements, they get along well. In fact, I would say that my entire family gets along well. We’re not particularly touchy-feely: It’s always a little awkward when we have to hug our grandparents on holidays, because we just never do that sort of thing at home. That’s not to say that my parents are uninterested or don’t care about us. Far from it; even though they both have busy work schedules, one of them would almost always make it to my track and cross-country meets and to Holly’s soccer games. My mother, in particular, has always tried to keep on top of what’s going on in our lives. In high school, I took advanced-level classes and earned good grades. I also got along quite well with my teachers, and ended up graduating in the top 10 percent of my class. I know this made my mother really proud, especially since she works at the school. She would get worried that I might not be doing my best and “working to my full potential.” All through high school, she tried to keep on top of my homework assignments and test schedules. My Origins
I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to find an origins story when I’m one myself. When I get older and have kids of my own it will come to me more natural because now I’m still young and trying to grasp ahold of the things that have carved me. It’s hard to put these things into words because most are memories now and many things that have impacted me are gone but never forgotten. It could be the smell of peppermint that reminds me of my granny or seeing a cowboys to remind me of my uncle; It’s really crazy that one small thing can be with you forever and many don’t even realize these things will affect you but I do. Some of these is what drives to be the best person I can be to my friends and family and I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have a part of them in me.
My name is Anrique Gerard Ellery; born in Lebanon Kentucky on January 11, 1997. My parents are Richard Ellery and Ann Thomas. I was the youngest out of 2 sisters; my oldest sister Niya; I never got the chance to live with because she moved out when she was 15 so I wasn’t born yet. My parents split up when I was 3 because of my dad’s drug addiction. Being that young nobody tells you what’s going on because they know you would understand. Being that age the only thing I was worried about was cartoons and pancakes. We moved in with my grandparents in Springfield Kentucky where I attended Head-Start and later my mom found a boyfriend that later became her husband a couple years later. We moved to Danville Kentucky, with my mom and sister(Simone). At the time I hated it because this wasn’t our choice, we didn’t want to leave everyone we knew and live with a man we didn’t know at all. My second oldest sister Simone is 7 years older than me and was in high school when I was in elementary school so she would always walk me to school because my mom worked nights since before I was born that lead to her not being around much. So I needed a baby sitter which was my Granny Luddie (Dads Mother).
My favorite lady women in the world was my granny so every weekend I would get dropped off at her house because I didn’t like being in Danville because the kids I went to school with didn’t like me and I felt out of place. So I stayed in my hometown a lot, my mother’s parents lived down the street and family lived all of the place so if I did something bad you already know my granny would know about it. Before I got back home. She was a very religious women, she went to church on Wednesday and stayed late on Sundays to count the money. I could remember playing the drums until she got done and the smell of the peppermint in her car. She had 9 kids; 2 of my uncles died during before she did and one after she died. All about me
I asked my parents to describe me and what they thought about my character. My dad said that he liked that I am hardworking and always thinking about my future. My mother thinks I am sweet and admires me because I always try to put on a smile. Three of my friends say that I am an outgoing person, sociable, likable and fun to be around. Most of them had good things to say about me. One of them said I am very competitive. Of course, some of these responses could be biased or a little insincere since I assume none of these people would want to hurt me in any way. However, I still believe that their thoughts about me could not be far from the truth. Personally, I think I am a very ambitious individual. I reflect a lot about my future. I want to be successful both in school and out of it. I always try to be positive even when being faced with challenges. I agree with most of my friends’ responses.
For instance, I agree when one of them said that I am very hardworking and competitive. This is true because I do not like losing, be at my job, schoolwork or fun activities, I always try to win. I do not completely agree when my friends say that I am always kind and outgoing. Being an incredibly ambitious person, sometimes I tend to push away the closest people in my life so that I can dedicate some time for myself and my son. I usually use this time to reflect on my dreams and how I am going to achieve them and what I will be able to offer to my son’s future.
I believe that it is completely normal for someone to want to improve themselves. I do it with good intentions. I do not do it intentionally to harm anyone, and sometimes I feel guilty whenever I decline my friends’ request to hang out so that I can work on myself but still believe that they understand and appreciate me and those who hasn’t stick around were not meant to be in my life.
My ideal self is a person who always strives to achieve what I desire but still dedicates time for friends, family and other people close to me. My ideal self is a person who is successful, trusting, tender, thoughtful, humble, determined, trustworthy and wise. Also, I desire to be tougher whenever I face challenges since I tend to think that I am a little sensitive. I would very much like to embody these character traits. I think that there is a lot of work to be done to achieve my ideal self but still, think that I am not far-flung.
My social identities vary. For instance, I am a member of a women association club. I am also a member of the parent’s club at my son’s school. Being members of these social groups has helped me improve my sense of worth, social skills and also meet relatives that I never met back in my country. If I could go back to my upbringing I think that I would definitely have chosen different friends, once I got into high school I made new friends and those friends introduced me to marijuana, alcohol, and cigarettes. I drunk and party though out high school when around my friends because I wanted to fit in. Now as an adult I do not party or drink, but I do still smoke cigarettes and I wish I would have never gotten into smoking. I do think that have a different circle of friends would have altered my course of life and I would probably not be a smoker now. I would also have tried to have a better relationship with my mother, we were not always close while I was growing up, but today as I am older we are close and have a good relationship.
