Joshua Fink is seeking a career in electrical engineering. He will graduate in December 2016 with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Some of his coursework includes electric power distribution, control systems analysis, and programmable logic controllers. For his senior project, he built smart blinds that open and close based on light level readings from a sensor. He also designed a solar panel system for powering a house. Fink has work experience in sales, manufacturing, and as a golf course greenskeeper and irrigation technician.

Degree Related Projects:
Smart Blinds
o For my senior project I built blinds that would open and close based on a light sensor that was located on
the base unit. In order to get this to work I used three microcontrollers; one for the base unit and two for
the blinds themselves. In the base unit I displayed the temperature, light level, time, date and humidity on
an LCD. I also used a 434MHz RF transmitter in order to transfer the light level to the blinds. On the
blinds I used a 434MHz RF receiver to receive the light value sent every second and based on the
parameters I set it to activate the servo to move to the position of the blinds to the set degree.
Solar PanelHouse Design
o For my Power Generation Using Renewable Energy class I made a report for a solar system for my house
to see if it is worth the investment. In doing this I took the amount of energy my house uses every month
and then using 235 Watt polycrystalline solar panels I would need four strings in series with 11 modules
per array. With all of the wiring, panels, inverters and batteries I came to the conclusion that in order for it
to be worth it you would want to live in that house for at least the next ten years.
