Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
Serves as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic for the 233d Transportation Company, 87th
Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. Provides maintenance support to the
Directorate Plans Training Mobilization and Safety (DPTMS) office and Range
Control at Fort Stewart,Georgia. Supervises the recovery and repair of 24
HMMWV's. Responsible for troubleshooting of vehicular tuning, engine repair, and
vehicle damage assessments and repair. Responsible for the training, health and
welfare of four soldiers. Responsible for the accountability of section equipment
valued in excess of $500,000. Test drive vehicles, and test components and systems,
using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and
computerized diagnostic devices. Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or
malfunctions. Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes. Follow checklists to ensure all
important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs,
brake and fuel systems,wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
Confer with customers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss work
to be performed and future repair requirements. Perform routine and scheduled
maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups. Repair and
service air conditioning, heating, engine-cooling, and electrical systems. Test and
adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications. Review
work orders and discuss work with supervisors. Tear down, repair, and rebuild faulty
assemblies such as power systems, steering systems, and linkages. Examine vehicles,
compile estimates of repair costs, and secure customers' approvalto perform repairs.
Repair, overhaul, or adjust automobile brake systems. Troubleshoot fuel, ignition, and
emissions control systems, using electronic testing equipment. Repair or replace
defective ball joint suspensions, brake shoes, or wheel bearings. Inspect and test new
vehicles for damage and record findings so that necessary repairs can be made. Test
electronic computer components in automobiles to ensure proper operation. Tune
automobile engines to ensure proper and efficient functioning. Install or repair air
conditioners and service components, such as compressors, condensers,and controls.
Repair, replace, or adjust defective fuel injectors, carburetor parts,and gasoline filters.
Remove and replace defective mufflers and tailpipes. Maintain wheeled vehicles, their
2. associated trailers and material handling equipment systems. Use of applicable
references,inspecting, servicing, maintaining, repairing, replacement, adjusting and
testing of wheeled vehicles and material handling equipment systems, subsystems and
components such as: power plant/packs, compression ignition engines and engine fuel
systems, air induction and exhaust systems and cooling systems. Vehicle chassis and
power train components including, frame cross members, clutches assemblies,
transmissions, transfers,final drives, propeller shaft assemblies, brake systems and
steering systems, suspensions systems, fifth wheel assemblies, wheeled vehicle crane,
hoist and winch assemblies, and hydraulic systems. Automotive electrical systems
including wiring harness,starting, and charging systems. Perform wheeled vehicle
recovery operations. Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions could be
detected,and notify operators of any malfunctions. Help mechanics by performing
duties of lesser skill, such as supplying or holding materials or tools, or cleaning work
areas and equipment. Refers any discrepancies or problems to the leader or supervisor.
Receives continual training on security, safety and sanitation. Learns and utilizes
safety practices and procedures in all duties, and maintains a safe and clean work
environment. Identifies and corrects any unsafe conditions; reports uncorrectable
conditions to the leader or the supervisor. Train new employees. Highly motivated
