The document discusses how no one has ever seen God directly, but that God came in the form of his Son Jesus to reveal himself to humanity. It explores passages from the Old Testament where some saw visions of God but still did not see his full nature. The key point is that through Jesus, who has the closest relationship with the Father, God made himself fully known in a personal way so that people could understand him.

God relates to humans by becoming human in the form of Jesus Christ. As God, Jesus is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. However, to relate to humanity, Jesus had to become human and experience temptation. As a human, Jesus was tempted in all the same ways as humans - by lust of the flesh, eyes, and pride of life. But Jesus resisted all temptation without sin. Now, as our high priest, Jesus can sympathize with human weaknesses and temptation because He experienced it Himself.

This is your year of marching out! When you pray, hear from God and receive clear directives and assurances, then it will be the time to move, take actions. It is very important to understand and assimilate this principle because a lot of people fail at this point. They know the target, they fast and pray and even sometimes get directives on what to do, but unfortunately, they don’t take the steps to actualize the goal or vision. Now, in battles it could be suicidal to make such blunder. In winning life challenges, you must know the time to wait, time to retreat and also the time to move forward. The bible said that there is time for everything. There is a time to pray and also the time act. And if you have followed what we have been discussing, this is your time to act, to move out; to implement the plan you received for your victory. You cannot afford not to march out now! Action please!
The document discusses end times prophecy and events that are predicted in the Bible to occur, including the rapture, rise of the antichrist, invasions of Israel, and the second coming of Jesus Christ. It aims to educate readers about biblical prophecies and their implications, in order to empower people to live differently in light of the future described in the Bible and share this information with others. The author is not claiming to predict the future with certainty, but rather interpret known biblical facts and educated guesses.

This document discusses the importance of seeking God's direction and guidance. It references passages from Psalms that ask God to teach his ways and paths. David wanted to follow where God led him. Without direction from God, people wander aimlessly and never truly arrive at their destination. But Jesus provides the direction from God that people need to find their way. The conclusion encourages putting one's trust in God's direction.

This document discusses whether people truly care about important spiritual matters like God's love for the world and the gift of the gospel. It notes that some in the past, like the proconsul Gallio, showed indifference. However, it encourages readers to care by loving God and keeping his commandments, giving to others in need as the early Christians did, and having faith shown through works, not just words. The gospel calls all people to purification as they await Christ's return. In the end, it asks if anyone will care that Jesus died on the cross to atone for humanity's sins, as a mother once asked why her son had to die.
Sermon Slide Deck: "When God Moves Into The Neighbourhood" (John 1:1-18)New City Church
If you want to know God you have to get to know Jesus, because in Jesus God has made himself known.
This message was given on December 4, 2016 at New City Church in Calgary by Pastor John Ferguson. For more info, please visit: www.newcitychurch.ca
The document discusses John 1:1-18 from the Bible which describes Jesus as the Word who was with God in the beginning and through whom all things were created. It then asks questions about why one believes in God and what it would take to believe. It lists some "fingerprints of God" like the big bang requiring a beginner and fulfilled prophecies about Israel and Jesus. Finally, it discusses John 1:10-12 which says Jesus came to his own people but they did not receive him, though all who received him and believed in his name have the right to become children of God.

The document summarizes passages from the Bible about Jesus Christ coming into the world as the true light. It describes how John the Baptist was a witness sent by God to testify about Jesus as the light, so that people may believe. While Jesus was the true light that gives light to everyone, he was not recognized when he came into the world that he created.
The document provides an overview of a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on 1 John 1:1-4. The sermon discusses how John emphasizes the physical reality of Jesus in order to refute the heresy of Docetism. It also examines John's purpose in writing - to establish fellowship with believers and bring them joy by proclaiming the truth about Jesus, the eternal life. False teachings in the early church denied either Jesus' humanity or taught that special knowledge was required for salvation rather than faith in Christ.
Why we do not see God’s Presence in our lives? We do not see or perceive God’s Presence is because we don’t always seek God with our whole heart, we don’t purse God with repentant hearts, we are looking for the wrong kind of God, our God is too small or we are looking in the wrong places. Opening our spiritual eyes depends on Lordship of Jesus Christ, understanding and applying the Bible, prayer and spiritual companions.
The document discusses John the Baptist and his role as a witness to Jesus Christ. It notes that John was sent by God to bear witness to the light of Christ in order to help people believe. John fulfilled his divine mission by preparing the way for the Lord and pointing others to Jesus, even in the face of difficulties, without becoming offended. He remained faithful to his calling from God and accepted the circumstances he was given.

The document discusses the significance of names, beginning with examples from Chinese culture where names often reference qualities like wisdom, beauty, or gold. It then discusses names in an organizational context, providing examples like Every Nation, World Vision, and Greenpeace. Biblical names are also examined, such as Abraham meaning "Father of Many" and Jacob meaning "The Deceiver." The main point is that a name captures and communicates the qualities of a person or entity. The document focuses on the name "Emmanuel," explaining its meaning of "God with us" and how this reflects God's consistent desire throughout the Old and New Testaments to be with humanity.
Design for Discipleship Person of ChristPhil Larson
The document is from an organization called PrayerMetro that provides resources on discipleship and growing one's faith. It discusses Jesus' commandment to his disciples to go make disciples of all nations. It then provides several pages of content exploring the identity of Jesus as God, the Christ, supreme ruler, a man on a mission, and a friend to believers. The document encourages readers to reflect on what impresses them from the teachings and what they will do to apply the lessons in their lives this week. It addresses where the discipleship process may lead, what readers can expect, and supplies a list of materials needed to organize their discipleship journey.
God Pitched His Tent Among Us - John 1:1-14David Turner
The document discusses Jesus as the Creator and how he entered the world to save it. It makes several key points:
- Jesus, the Word, existed before creation and was present during creation, as the Bible says he created all things.
- Though Jesus created the world, he was not recognized when he entered it. Even his own people rejected him.
- For those who received him by believing in him, Jesus gave them the privilege to become children of God, regardless of heritage or following religious laws. This is the only way to become a child of God.
- So the Creator entered the world as a man to live among us and save the world he had created, though the world did
This document contains three passages from the Bible. The first passage describes John the Baptist witnessing about Jesus, who was the true light coming into the world. The second passage discusses that Jesus came to his own people but they did not receive him, but all who believed in him were given the right to become children of God. The third passage reiterates that grace and truth came through Jesus Christ and that we have received grace upon grace from his fullness.

This document discusses the Christian doctrine of the Trinity - that God exists as three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) in one being. It provides arguments for the existence of God and the divinity of Jesus from historical, cosmological, teleological, moral, and existential perspectives. It examines the biblical basis for the Trinity in both the Old and New Testaments. It addresses common objections to the Trinity and concludes that an eternal, loving God must necessarily be a Trinity to fulfill the nature of love between persons.
The document provides commentary on 1 John 2:15-17. It discusses how Christians should view the world, explaining that "world" can refer to 1) the physical world, 2) humanity, or 3) the present system aligned with Satan. Christians are called not to love this third sense of world or the lusts of the flesh, eyes, and pride of life that come from it, but rather do God's will. Two steps for resisting temptation are to flee from it and make every effort not to yield to sin. Overall Christians are called to live in the world but not be of this world system.
The document provides an overview of the Gospel of John. It was written around 95 AD for Jewish-Christians who had been expelled from their synagogues. In John, Jesus is portrayed as the Logos, the Word of God. The prologue traces Jesus' origins back to God. It describes how all things were created through Jesus as the Word, and that the Word became flesh by coming into the world.
This document provides an overview and summary of 1 John 1:5-2:6. It discusses key points from the passage, including that God is light and without darkness; we cannot claim to have fellowship with God if we walk in darkness; but if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we will have fellowship with one another and Jesus' blood will purify us from sin. It also notes that if we claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves, but if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us; and that Jesus is our advocate before the Father and the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Spiritual Warfare: Rescue From Worldliness (Part IV)David Turner

This document discusses the concept of patience. It begins by welcoming the reader and quoting a passage from 1 Thessalonians encouraging rejoicing, prayer, and thanksgiving. It then states that patience is a complex concept involving calmness under provocation, not becoming angry in difficulty, extensively tolerating others, enduring annoyance or problems, and persisting in difficult situations. The document goes on to explore different aspects of growing in patience such as suffering mistreatment, responding to provocation, tolerating shortcomings, waiting for God to act, and persevering through adversity.
Paul writes a letter to the church in Corinth greeting them and reminding them that they have been called by God into fellowship with Jesus Christ. He thanks God for the grace given to the Corinthians and says that God will strengthen them until the end. Paul urges the Corinthians to end their divisions and be united in their faith as those who have been called by God.

Joseph of Arimathea boldly went to Pilate and requested Jesus' body after crucifixion. As a prominent member of the Council who was waiting for the kingdom of God, Joseph bought a shroud and buried Jesus safely in a tomb, fulfilling the Jewish customs before the Sabbath. Nicodemus assisted Joseph in preparing Jesus' body for burial.
The document discusses why Christians believe in one God consisting of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It provides biblical evidence for each person being God, including texts that state Jesus is God, show Jesus exercising divine authority like God the Father, and classify the Holy Spirit alongside the Father and Son. The document argues that belief in the Trinity is essential to the gospel's claims about Jesus bearing the penalty of sin and restoring fellowship with God through his atonement.
1. Jesus was crucified at 9am where he was mocked and insulted. From noon until 3pm there was darkness over the land. At 3pm, Jesus cried out "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" before dying.
2. Upon Jesus' death, three events testified to who he was: the temple curtain was torn from top to bottom, the centurion said "Surely this man was the Son of God," and some women disciples witnessed from a distance.
3. The document describes Jesus' crucifixion and death, including the events that occurred at three specific times, and three witnesses that testified to Jesus' identity.
This passage from Mark describes the betrayal and arrest of Jesus. It notes that Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss to identify him for the soldiers. When the soldiers arrested Jesus, his disciples deserted him and fled. Only a young man followed at a distance before fleeing naked when seized. The passage examines different levels of commitment to Christ - committing to church but not Christ, committing to Christ but not fully or to follow him, commiting to Christ but not his people or taking him at his word.
Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him to pray in Gethsemane, telling the others to stay and keep watch. He was deeply distressed and asked God to take away his suffering if possible. Returning to the disciples, Jesus found them sleeping three times and admonished them to stay awake and pray. The third time he told them the hour had come for him to be betrayed.
The passage encourages Christians to draw near to God with confidence through Jesus, their great high priest. It exhorts them to hold firmly to their faith and spur one another on through love and good works. It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
The Book of Ruth is included in the third division, or the Writings, of the Hebrew Bible. In most Christian canons it is treated as one of the historical books and placed between Judges and 1 Samuel.

Editor's Notes
‘Quiet.’
Which all too often means: ‘Disappointing!’
Words that really shouldn’t be but all too often ARE associated with Christmas.
So what WAS it all about?
Does it matter?John 1:18 gives us a pretty good answer to that one …
What it celebrates – admittedly all too often in the wrong way at the wrong time of year – is Jesus coming to earth in order to make God … and all that He is about … to be known.
We’re looking at John 1:18 on this and yes it DOES matter because today, I think we’re going to be dealing with the source of one of the biggest problems we encounter with living the Christian life and probably with living life at all.
We’re dealing with the big thing the lack of which saps the life out of us, and the thing without which our crises (too) become the most unreachable of challenges.
We’re dealing with how we know God.
Here’s the issue at the heart of most of the problems that anyone has living the Christian life.
It’s not so much the understanding of what’s going on.
Forgive me, but it’s usually not so much the difficulty of our circumstances themselves.
It’s usually much more the difficulty that we cannot say we’ve found Him, known Him, WALKED with Him as we encounter our circumstances … it would be different if we were constantly conscious of Him THERE with us.
So there’s where we need to be going.
There are several distinct propositions in this verse …
The noun ‘God’ here has no article in the Greek text, which indicates that the author is presenting God in His nature or being … rather than as a person.
‘Deity’ might be a better translation.
The meaning here is that no human being has ever seen the essence of deity.
Now, this invisibility of essential Deity is a problem for those who do not believe …
If a person does not perceive spiritual truth on account of being spiritually blind then they are still in the position of the person whose natural vision cannot see by the light of the x-ray machine.
The materialist’s criteria for the assessment of reality relate to stuff you can see, smell, touch, throw a brick at … you know? But you can’t SEE God … so He lives outside the things the materialist is prepared to acknowledge as being real. That’s an absolute problem for MANY without faith.
But it’s a problem for some believers and theologians too … because there are times in the OT when people SEEM to, and that’s important because they don’t SEE God in the sense intended here.
This incident in the OT where Moses was allowed to hide away in the cleft of the rock as God’s Glory passed by has just been alluded to in John 1:14 … “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
But MOSES DIDN’T …
Bruce “We should perhaps say … that Moses saw, so to speak, the afterglow of the divine glory.’
In that diminished sense God speaks with Moses ‘face to face’ (but without the face) and Moses ‘sees the form of the Lord’ (Numbers 12:8)
In Isaiah 6, the prophet cries out in anguish at the thought that his eyes have seen God …
In Isaiah 6, the prophet cries out in anguish at the thought that his eyes have seen God …
But what had Isaiah ACTUALLY seen?
Not a lot.
It was just the hem of God’s robe that filled the Temple, around which the Heavenly creatures then flew!
Carson: “The fact remains that the consistent Old Testament assumption is that God cannot be seen, or, more precisely, that for a sinful human being to see Him would bring death (Ex. 33:20; Dt. 4:12; Ps. 97:2). Apparent exceptions are always qualified in some way.”
But then John – earth-shatteringly – says … the Unique and the Beloved One, Himself God, has expounded God and made Him known to us.
What it means is that the beloved Son, the Word made flesh (v. 14) Himself fully God whilst being the One Who is ‘at the Father’s side’, has broken the barrier that made it impossible (even DANGEROUS) for human beings to see God, and by Christ’s coming has made Him known.
How do we KNOW that God’s come?!
Contemporary accounts
Gospel accounts.
But that’s not John’s primary concern … he is concerned with Who the Jesus Who came is because John has such good evidence that He did!
Who is this One … the Word?
In A Greek-English Lexicon of Liddell & Scott the following main definition is given:
A. the only member of a kin or kind: hence, generally, only, single, "child" (pais, παῖς) Hesiod, Works and Days 376; Herodotus Histories 7.221; cf. Gospel of John 1.14;Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews 32.1; Hesiod Theogony, concerning Hecate.2. unique, of (to on, τὸ ὄν), Parmenides 8.4; “εἷς ὅδε μ. οὐρανὸς γεγονώς” Plato Timaeus.31b, cf. Proclus Institutio Theologica 22; “θεὸς ὁ μ.” Friedrich Preisigke's Sammelbuch4324.15.[6]
There have been exhaustive debates about what is the right text and what the correct text should be.The external evidence strongly supports μονογενὴς θεός … the only begotten God rather than the suggested ‘the only begotten Son’.
Internally, although υἱός fits the immediate context more readily, θεός is much more difficult.
As well, θεός also explains the origin of the other reading (υἱός), because it is difficult to see why a scribe who found υἱός in the text he was copying would alter it to θεός.
Scribes would naturally change the wording to υἱός however, since μονογενὴς υἱός is a uniquely Johannine christological title (cf. John 3:16, 18; 1 John 4:9). But θεός as the older and more difficult reading is preferred.
As for translation, it makes the most sense to see the word θεός as in apposition to μονογενής, and the participle ὁ ὤν as in apposition to θεός, giving in effect three descriptions of Jesus rather than only two.
God the One and Only
The only begotten of the Father
The One in closest fellowship with the Father.
The NIV’s ‘Who is at the Father’s side’ might more literally be rendered ‘Who is in the bosom of the Father’.
You get a similar expression used to describe Lazarus in the parable as being ‘in Abraham’s bosom’ (Lk. 16:22-23) or to describe the disciple John leaning on Jesus’s bosom at the Last Supper …
The idea is of close proximity as you lie at table together.
It becomes a metaphor that describes the closest of table fellowship … intimacy, mutual love and knowledge of one another.
It is this intimacy that enables Jesus to make God known … but we are coming to that.
It is from this Greek word (here ἐξηγήσατο) that we derive our term ‘exegesis’ … the unpacking and explaining of what lies in a text.
Elsewhere in the NT the word means ‘to tell the story’ or ‘to narrate’ (so Lk. 24:35, Acts 10:8; 15:12, 14; 21:19).
J.P. Louw suggests you could say that Jesus is the narration of God.
In knowing Creator we understand whatever else has been made.

It’s that personal aspect of discovery and learning Him that is CRITICAL.
You get to know God in Him through FOLLOWING Him.
The challenge for us as a church through the things we have known this year and anticipate for next year is to know Him through following Him and in doing so, ourselves, to follow Him in making God known.
The emphasis of the Prologue then is on the revelation of the Word as the ultimate disclosure of God Himself.
The being and nature of God – which cannot be perceived directly from ordinary senses – has been adequately presented to us by the Incarnation … and John gives us the record of the revelation of this Jesus Who reveals God to us.
If you want to know Who God is – more than that if you want to know HIM – John’s Gospel is the place to read about Him and to meet with Him.
It’s that personal aspect of discovery and learning Him that is CRITICAL.
You get to know God in Him through FOLLOWING Him.
The life and words of Jesus are more than an announcement.
They are an explanation.
More than that they make an introduction to Someone.
The challenge for us as a church through the things we have known this year and anticipate for next year is to know Him through following Him and in doing so, ourselves, to follow Him in making God known.
