Job Write-up Sita
I was introducedtothe Techniciansinthe workshopandagot straightto work.Theyaskedme a few
questionstogetan ideaof howswitchedonI wasand how much I was interestedinthe job. They
technicianswouldthentell me whatIwouldneedtobe doingforthe joband thenwe wouldgather
all the toolstogetherthatwe neededforthe job.
Whenwe wouldgetto where we neededtobe forthe jobI wouldthenaskwhat itis we are working
on? Whywe are workingonit? What we will needtodoto erectthe problem?
The technicianwouldthenverballydescribe tome exactlywhatwe will be doingonthe equipment
and howwe are goingto do it,theywouldthengoon to start the jobto show me what it isthat I
needtodo and thenletme geton withthe job bearinginmindthatthe job issuitable forme todo
and notto complex.
Everyjobthat was carriedout,everytime before handwe wouldgoandlookat the equipmentfirst
and see exactlywhattoolswe needandtrybrainstormideas towhatmay be the problemwiththe
equipment.We wouldthengotothe permitsoffice tosee if we canfirstlyworkonthe equipment
and thenwhethertheyfinditsafe toworkon the equipmentwithoutanyinjury.We wouldalso
needtotake intoaccountwhetherwe wouldneedanyspecial equipmentorPPEfor the job or if
there wasany restrictionsaroundthe jobi.e.workinginsmall spaces.
I tookpart in a lot of differentjobs;
Thiswas the hose for the wetcleansystem, asseenthe hose waswornan it neededchanging,the
waythe hose ischangedwasby undoingthe endof the
casingby takingout 4 boltsand thentakingthe casing
off.Thisisto change the belt thathelpsdrive the belt
down.Thenthe casingis putback on and we woulduse
the control to drive the hose off the drum andthen
undoit at the endusinga spannerand thenreverse the
processto putthe newhose backonto the drum.Then
all the protective casingwouldbe putbackon to the
machinery.
A lotof the jobsthat I tookpart in wasinspectingandmaintaining alotof the machineryaroundthe
site,thisconsistedof me givingthe machineryavisual inspectionandthengreasingit upsothat it
can continue towork correctly.
The way inwhichI woulddothisis I wouldfirststartby checking
the equipmentdoesn’thave anyvisual damage suchascracks or
thingsbrokenoff.Iwouldthencheckall the boltsthat iskeeping
it all togetherandthentightenanyboltsthatwere loose or
replacinganythat were roundedorsheared.Iwouldthenmove
on to inspectingall the grease nipplestocheckthat theywere
all inworkingorderand thenI woulduse the grease gunto
make sure all the movingpartswere properlygreasedtostopit
seizingup.

AnotherjobthatI was involvedinwasreplacingasectionof pipe thattransportedlime initwhich
had eventuallyrupturedthe pipeandwasbeingtemporally repairedwithtape.
The way inwhichwe changedthe pipe wasthat a technicianjoshwentupona cherrypickerwhilstI
was stoodonthe gantry.I passedhimoversome rope and he tieditroundthe endof the pipe andI
keptholdof the rope,he thenunclippedthe pipeandIlowereditdowntothe technicianbelow
(Alan) he thenuntiedthe rope andtiedthe endof the rope to the new sectionof pipe andI dragged
it uponto the gantry andhelditthere withPaul whilst joshclampeditontothe othersectionof
pipe.Itwas thenclampedinat the bottom.
Summary of learning Experience
The feedbackthatI was givenaftermyplacementwasverypositive andtheyseemedtopickupon
everythingthatIfeltlike Iwasdoingsuchas showinganinterestinthe job,goingineverydayand
beingpunctual andsayingthataskedall the right questionsthatIshouldhave done.Ialsolearnedso
much onmy placementsuchasnewtoolsand alsothe slangnamesfor certaintoolswhichcomesin
handy,I workedona lot of newmachinerythatI hadn’tseenbefore andwasdescribedtoonhow
theyactuallyworkbutmost important thingfeel thatIlearntwas a lotof technical information
aboutpumpsand valveswhichispiecesof equipmentthatIwill be workingonall the time inthis
career.
What I feltwentwell withthisplacementisthatIlearnta lot of thingstechnical wise whichIwill
take withme intoany otherplacementsthatImay have but alsoI foundthat I goton withthe other
techniciansinthe workshopwell anditmade the placementall the more enjoyable.Makingme feel
evenmore eagerto go in on myscheduledplacementdays.If Iwasto do thisplacementoveragainI
wouldn’treallydoanythingdifferentlyotherthanaskif I can staythere a bitlonger.
In conclusion Iwasdisappointednottohave beentakenonby thiscompanybecause Ifeel this
wouldhave beenthe rightcompanyandenvironmentforme.However Istill feel thatthisplacement
has reallyopenedmyeyestothe careerI am wantingto do,and I feel evenmore enticedtosucceed
inthisindustry.
