Applications are invited for two Fisheries Assistant posts located at The Marine Laboratory
in Aberdeen. A reserve list of successful candidates may be kept for up to 12 months.
You will contribute to Marine Scotland Science’s Sustainable Fisheries Programme,
monitoring and sampling catches and collecting a range of biological data for use in the
resource assessment process.
Qualifications & experience required:
You must hold a minimum of 5 SCE Standard or Ordinary Grades including English and a
subject which clearly indicates competency in figure work. Standard Grades - only grades 1,
2 and 3 are acceptable. Ordinary Grades - only grades A, B and C (1, 2 and 3) are acceptable.
In addition, you must demonstrate excellent organisational skills, ability to plan work and use
your own initiative. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work as part of a
team, sharing information and communicating with both internal and external contacts. Basic
numeric, IT and data handling skills. Capable of and willing to travel within Scotland and, on
occasion, to work unsociable hours. A valid UK driving licence.
For these posts candidates must be capable of and willing to work at sea on commercial
fishing vessels.
These are permanent and pensionable appointments. New entrants will normally start on the
minimum of the pay range.
