The study measured homocysteine levels in 50 patients with ischemic stroke during acute and post-acute phases, 50 patients with vascular dementia, and 50 healthy subjects. Homocysteine concentration was higher in patients with ischemic stroke (16.93 μmol/L) and vascular dementia (20.39 μmol/L) compared to healthy subjects. Homocysteine levels increased during the post-acute phase of ischemic stroke after 7 and 14 days compared to acute phase levels. Statistical tests showed significant differences in homocysteine concentrations between acute and post-acute phases of ischemic stroke and between ischemic stroke and vascular dementia patients. A correlation was found between the number of strokes and homocysteine levels in patients with vascular
