The Japanese Garden in Delaware Park underwent restoration in the 1990s funded by a grant from the Japanese Expo Foundation. The garden was modeled after a famous garden in Kanazawa, Japan. Stones, lanterns, and a Shinto gate were imported from Japan to restore the garden's authentic features. Additional landscaping enhancements in 2008 included azaleas, cherry trees, and a new irrigation system. The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy now maintains the garden to preserve its cultural significance.
