2. About JANOG : the usual stuff
• Founded 1997
• 7500+ mailing list members as of Jan 2016
• Meetings
• Held twice a year, usually January and July.
• Three day meeting
• 2 days of plenary sessions + 1/2 day of tutorials and BoFs
• mostly focus on technical and operational discussions
• Internet live streaming & video archive (1 month after meeting) available
• No registration fee for meeting
• Presentations and discussions are in Japanese
• English acceptable but rough translation is recommended
• around 10 non-native attendees per meeting
• 800+ attendees at Tokyo meetings
• 500+ attendees at other cities
• Next meeting (JANOG38) July 2016 in Okinawa

4. Recent Discussion Topics at JANOG
• Software forwarding vs hardware forwarding
• The architecture of IA server is totally different from that of hardware
switches (including white-box switches).
• What are the differences in terms of performance characteristics
perspective?
• Net neutrality from traffic management perspective
• Net-Neutrality is not yet discussed in Japan as real life issue.
• Topics such as zero rating and abolishing of roaming fees are getting
increasing attention globally.
• What would be an impact of Net-Neutrality in Japan?
• MVNO in the future
• MVNOs are becoming popular and provide a source for competition in
the mobile market.
• What are technical challenges for them and their future roadmaps?

• The Internet in the Asia Pacific region
• In Asian countries, there is an exploding increase in the use of the
Internet. What’s the speaker’s experience on the current state of
the Internet in Asia?
• BGP Hijack Issue
• There was a huge BGP hijack issue November 2015.
• What happened during the hijack in a Tier1 ISP network?
• What are general preventive solutions against such BGP hijack
issues?
• Lab test items
• What test items do you use when testing technical functions in lab?
