James Thraves is a British music video director born in 1969 in Romford, Essex. He began his career making award-winning short films while studying at university and the Royal College of Art. Thraves used his short films to gain work with a video production company where he directed low-budget music videos for £5,000. Today, record labels send new songs to multiple directors who submit treatment proposals without pay before one is selected and paid to direct the full music video. Some of Thraves' most famous videos include "Just" and "The Scientist" for Radiohead and Coldplay on budgets of £100,000 and £200,000 respectively, both shot in three days.
