This document discusses the concept of argala in Jaimini astrology. It defines argala as planetary or sign intervention, where every planet has the ability to control the affairs of other planets or houses. It notes that primary argala occurs from planets/signs in the 2nd, 4th, and 11th houses, while virodh argala (obstruction) occurs from the 12th, 10th, and 3rd houses. Special argala can also occur from malefics in the 3rd house. The direction of counting is reversed for argala involving Ketu. - Every planet has the influence to control the affairs of every other
planet or house.
- Primary argala : planets, signs and upagraha etc. placed in the second,
fourth and eleventh house from any planet/sign have PRIMARY
ARGALA (direct intervention) in its affairs.
- planets, signs and Upagraha etc.) placed in the twelfth, tenth and third
houses cause VIRODHA ARGALA (Obstruction to Argala) on the
bodies (planets/signs) in the second, fourth and eleventh house
respectively.
- B V Raman includes the 5th also as Primiary Argala and 9th as Virodh
Argala.

- Special Argala is also caused by the presence of Malefics in the third
house.
- The Argala reckoning from Ketu is in the reverse direction. If Ketu is
in a sign from which the Argala is being determined, or if the Argala is
being determined for Ketu (Spiritual purposes), then the counting of
houses/signs is in the reverse.
- The Argala reckoning from Ketu is in the reverse direction[5].
- If Ketu is in a sign from which the Argala is being determined, or if the
Argala is being determined for Ketu (Spiritual purposes), then the
counting of houses/signs is in the reverse.
- Argalas caused by malefic in the 3rd has no neutralizing agency.

From the above table it is observed that the planetary interventions of signs are stronger
than those opposing the influence (virodh). It has been noted that the sign dasha of Scorpio
brought in great benefits with name , fame and wealth for the native, as the forces of
influence on the 10th house is tremendous.
