Linear Measurements: Instruments used. Linear Measurement by Tape, Ranging out Survey Lines and overcoming Obstructions; Measurements on sloping ground; Tape corrections, conventional symbols. Angular Measurements: Instruments used; Introduction to Compass Surveying, Bearings and Longitude & Latitude of a Line, Introduction to total station.
Levelling: Instrument used Object of levelling, Methods of levelling in brief, and Contour maps.

- 2. May 1st brings a lot of cheer and a little bit of madness to the UK each year when Jack-in- the-Green festivities get underway as part of the country’s May Day celebrations.
- 4. The procession also includes: ● Bogies ● clowns ● blind fiddlers ● the Lord and Lady ● Fairies on stilts
- 5. Origins Jack-in-the-Green, a whimsical figure that has led May Day parades and processions in England since around 1770, is believed to have evolved from a tradition that predated him by a century.
- 6. During the 17th century, it was recorded that milkmaids adopted the practice of decorating themselves for May Day—initially by adorning their pails with garlands and dancing behind a fiddler and then later by carrying silver plates stacked with silver household objects that formed a pyramid on their heads. They decorated these cone- shaped displays with ribbons and flowers and were accompanied by musicians from one household to the next, where they danced for those who resided within.
- 7. In the latter half of the 18th century, chimney sweeps joined in the May Day festivities, along with representatives from other working-class trades that had developed by that time.
