This document is a thesis submitted for a Master's degree in English Linguistics. It analyzes 422 news reports, analyses and opinion pieces from 19 English-language Arab newspapers regarding the "Prophet Muhammad cartoons controversy" using Critical Discourse Analysis. The analysis includes a quantitative frequency analysis of the corpus and qualitative comparisons of headlines and leads. It also performs microanalyses of two full texts, one from a Western source and one Arab-generated. The study concludes by critiquing the CDA models used and discussing findings and considerations for further research and CDA's role in education.
