This document discusses identity and how our true identity comes from being in Christ. It argues that if we derive our identity from anything other than Jesus, it will diminish our lives. However, if we see ourselves as supporting characters in Jesus' story of salvation, it will bring life. The document uses the examples of Peter and Isaiah to show how Jesus invites us into relationship with him and gives us a role in his story of rescuing people from sin. Our identity in Christ provides the peace and wholeness of the gospel.

5. •In psychology, identity is the
qualities, beliefs, personality, looks
and/or expressions that make a
person (self-identity)
•Every one of us has an identity;
good identity, bad identity, proper
identity, misplaced identity, we all
have a way seeing ourselves and
psyching who we are and how we
relate to other people. In the midst of
that some of us add Jesus and some
of us replace the identity for Jesus.

anything other than Jesus you will
have an identity that in essence
shrinking the life out of you.
•Isaiah’s reaction “woe to me”
signifies that he has entered into a
different space, a space where he
does not belong.

7. JESUS THE CENTER/HERO
OF THE STORY
From Genesis (Creation) to
Revelation (Jesus Returning King) –
It’s a story about Jesus and we are
all the supporting cast.

sin, without problem and any
suffering, man and woman was
walking with God.
•Revelation 21 says that God will
create a new heaven and new earth
without curse and without sin and
men and woman will be in perfect
union and relationship with God as
they worship him.

and earth the story of reign of God,
His kingdom is not at risk.
•It all about the story of a hero
rescuing people and that hero is
Jesus.
•The story is never at risk, it’s simply
lived out so people can be invited in
into the story.

a complete peace. It is
a feeling of
contentment,

wholeness, well-being
and harmony.

grace greatly displayed

your own story based on
your own identity will
snuffed the life out of you
but to have a walk-on role
(supporting cast) to the
greatest and epic story of
God will give you life and
the identity of gospel will
bring life to others as God
works through you.

TO JESUS’ STORY

33. 1 One day as Jesus was preaching on the
shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds
pressed in on him to listen to the word of
God. 2 He noticed two empty boats at the
water’s edge, for the fishermen had left
them and were washing their nets. 3
Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked
Simon, its owner, to push it out into the
water. So he sat in the boat and taught the
crowds from there.

34. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said
to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper,
and let down your nets to catch some fish.”
5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard
all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if
you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” 6
And this time their nets were so full of fish
they began to tear!
