Curieuse Island is a 1.5-kilometer-long granite islet off the north coast of Praslin. Curieuse was once a leper colony, but it is now a breeding centre for huge Aldabra tortoises. After being shown around the enclosures by the wardens at the Giant Tortoise Farm, guests are free to tour the rest of the island. Baie Laraie, which is close by, is a great spot for swimming and snorkelling.

9 exotic beaches that will seduce you with their black sandsWeAreHolidays
A warm, tropical sunny day and a long, endless stretch of beach spread out in front of you. Wearing your best beachwear, you are looking forward to spending a lazy day by the beach, lying on the sun-bed, reading a book and sipping a lemon and mint mojito. Perfect, isn’t it? Could you not momentarily feel yourself right there, on that beach with a book?
Picturing a sandy beach takes us to the images of, obviously, white or slightly tanned sand under the feet. That image is an all-pervasive, world accepted picture postcard that spells ‘holiday’! Right?
But what if we take you to some of the most stunning beaches in the world with, wait..black sand?! Yes, there exist black sand beaches and before you raise eyebrows and question the very existence of that ‘picture postcard beach’, hold on! The color black can be credited to lava formations due to volcanic eruptions, often located close to the beaches, over the years.

The world’s oceans and seas cover 71% of the surface of the Earth. It makes the Earth unique within the Solar System. It is also where life first began. Today the ocean is regarded as the last major frontier on Earth for exploration and development of resources to sustain mankind in the future. The sea also has an irresistible attraction on us, drawing nearer to the shores. The sound of the waves lashing on the sandy beaches, the gentle breeze of a hot summer evening, the shimmers of silver lights, the fisherman coming home with their catch, the long voyages of container carriers that link the world economy are all part of our acquaintance with the sea. In its fury, it can unleash power that can destroy cities, sending ships and army to the bottom of the sea. Apart from our scientists, the seas is often a tropic for artists, poets and musicians. The song La Mer was an example, composed and sang by Charles Trenet’s in 1946 offers us a romantics version of our encounter with the sea.

Within the Project "Sharing Experience Across the Ría", CEIP PLURILINGÜE Grade 5 students have made a research about the school area by the Ría and how it has changed in recent years to share with another school across the Ría.
2. • Isola Madre, at 220 m wide and 330 m long, is the largest island of the Isola
Borromeeo archipelago which falls within the Italian part of the Alpine
LakMaggiore in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Piedmont. The island is
occupied by a number of buildings and architectural structures and is especially
well known for its gardens. In the past it was known as Isola di San Vittore and
later as Isola Maggiore
• The available historical sources indicate that in the middle of the ninth century the
island had a church, a cemetery (whose existence is recalled by the current
garden’s so-called scala dei morti, or “Staircase of the Dead”). It is known for
certain that olives were cultivated here; the produce may have been employed for
sacred purposes.
• In 1501 Lancillotto Borromeo, one of the five children of Giovanni III Borromeo
and Cleofe Pio di Carpi, introduced the cultivation ofcitrus fruit to the island, the
plants being brought from Liguria, along with a gardener (or hortolano) to tend
them. Lancillotto began the construction of the family residence on the island,
which in the 1580s was extended in the renaissance style by Renato I Borromeo.
