“And your God is One God -- Allah. There is none who has the right to be worshipped but Him, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.” (The Qur’an, 2:163)
Islamic Monotheism [Tauheed ] is the faith in only One True God, Who is the only one worthy of worship. He has neither son nor partner. He is the true God, and every other deity is false. Islamic Monotheism is neither a sect nor a faction of Islam, but it is the foremost and Fundamental Article of Faith in Islam. It is the eternal message brought and confirmed by all the Prophets of Allah and finally, it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon him]. Muslims believe that Muhammad [Peace be upon him] is the last Prophet of Allah.
It confers that all Prophets of Allah preached one religion which is Islam, and one Doctrine of Faith called Aqeeda-at-Tauheed or Islamic Monotheism.
There are three aspects of Islamic Monotheism:
1- ONENESS OF THE LORDSHIP OF ALLAH (Tauheed-ar-Rububiyyah):
To believe that there is only One Lord (Allah) for the entire universe.
Allah alone is the Almighty, the Creator, and the Sovereign; He is the Disposer of all affairs and the Sustainer of everything in the whole universe.
He has power over all things, and He is able to do everything. He gives life and causes death.
He created the heavens and the earth and sends down water (rain) from the sky; He made the night and the day; He created the sun, the moon and the stars, subjected (in service) by His Command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.
2- ONENESS OF THE WORSHIP OF ALLAH (Tauheed-al-Uluhiyyah):
To believe that No one has the right to be invoked, supplicated, prayed to, or shown any act of worship, but Allah alone.
Praying, invoking, supplicating Allah’s blessings, swearing, slaughtering sacrifices, giving charity and Zakah, fasting, performing pilgrimage, all are exclusively dedicated to Allah only.
3- ONENESS OF THE NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES OF ALLAH (Tauheed-ul-Asma was-Sifat):
To believe that Allah has the Most Magnificent Names and sublime perfect attributes. No one shares His divinity, or His attributes or His names.
He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, and the All-Knowing. His knowledge encompasses all things, the open and the secret, and the public and the private. Allah is far removed from injustice and tyranny. He is All-Wise in all of His actions and decrees.
THE ATTRIBUTES OF ALLAH (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala):
High and Exalted Allah states in the Qur’an that He has certain attributes such as hearing, sight, hands, face, mercy, anger, coming, encompassing, being above the Throne, etc. Yet He has dissociated Himself from the limitations of human attributes or human imagination. Correct Islamic Belief demands faith in the existence of these attributes as Allah has described them without applying to them any allegorical meanings or attempting to explain how a certain quality could be (while this is known only to Allah), and without comparing them with His creations.
