Prior to attending North Carolina A&T, the author was studying education at Salem College to become an elementary school teacher. While student teaching in a second grade classroom, the author realized they wanted to study a more intellectually challenging field that could make a positive impact. Although passionate about teaching, the author decided to study industrial engineering instead. After transferring to A&T, the author struggled at first due to not having taken math in years, but improved their performance the next semester. The transition between institutions helped the author grow more confident in their studies and embrace change through engaging with diverse peers.
