Irish Immigration
By Katie Youngman, Nina Godbout,
and Nikita Harivel
In the 19th Century,
Many Irish
migrated to
America to
find jobs, but
were
separated at
a time of bad
problems.
The Act of Union…
They were added the U.S. to British Policy, but this
didn’t ease the problems with the Irish Immigrants.
The Irish became impoverished quickly.
To make matters worse, there was a Great Potato Rot in 1845
causing GREAT famine. They had a rough time because potatoes were
Ireland’s main crop.
They even had trouble on the ships to America such as
“Runners”. (Large greedy men that force the
immigrants to their favorite tenement houses and then
make them pay a very expensive fee to live there.)
Although many were poor, their
culture was rich.
