This document is the August 2008 issue of the journal "Volume VI, No. 8" published by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India. The main article discusses the issue of lapsation in life insurance policies, where policyholders stop paying premiums and allow the policies to lapse without making any claims. Lapsation is a problem for insurance companies as it results in losses. The article argues that high rates of lapsation are not in the interest of either insurance companies or customers, and that more needs to be done to educate customers on maintaining their policies.
