21. Dnipro is a place of considerable touristic charm. Located on the banks of the Dnipro River in a region rich in
natural beauty and steeped in Ukrainian Cossack tradition, todayʼs Dnipro offers a range of recreation and
leisure activities that make it a fun city break destination.
This chic boulevard is a relatively new and fresh arrival to the Dnipro downtown architectural ensemble. It is one of the cityʼs
most popular eating out and retail focuses. The district includes a range of fountains and other funky design elements such as
overhead decorations. In the long and sultry summer months, it plays host to a series of terraces and streetside cafes that attract
Dniproʼs beautiful people.

22. MONASTERY ISLAND
This downtown natural treasure is a wonderful place for
family strolls and romantic interludes all year round.
Connected to the city via a pedestrian bridge, it forms part of
Dniproʼs largest park complex – Shevchenko Park. Monastery
Island is home to one of Ukraineʼs largest Shevchenko
monuments and boasts some of the cityʼs best beaches.
Weekenders can also enjoy a zoo, pony riding club, and
various cafes. The island abounds in greenery and is a great
place to chill out if you are looking to get away from the big
city bustle without travelling out of town.
Known to many as "Ukrainian House" or "The House of
Khrennikov", this local landmark is a classic example of
Ukrainian modernist architecture. Built in 1912 by prominent
businessman Vladimir Khrennikov, this four-story building
has won plaudits as the architectural embodiment of
Ukrainian national traditions. Ukrainian ethnographer and
historian Dmytro Yavornytsky played a key role in the
development of the architectural plans behind the building
and helped to add elements of authenticity. With its tower
topped by wrought iron spikes, tiled roof and white walls, the
building is reminiscent of architectural styles common during
the era of the Zaporizhia Sich and the heyday of the
Ukrainian Cossacks. The buildingʼs ornate and detailed
decorations include the Coat of Arms of the Zaporizhia Army
– a Cossack with a musket and a sword. This monument to
Ukrainian architectural heritage miraculously survived the
destruction of WWII and serves today as one of the cityʼs top
hotels.
Dnipro is home to Ukraineʼs largest aquatic sports complex, the Sentosa Cable Park. The park is popular for wakeboarding
and water skiing. It has already gained a reputation beyond Ukraine as a venue for international competitions. Sentosa Cable
Park boasts state-of-the-art facilities and offers a dose of adrenaline close to the city center. This is an extremely popular
hangout during the summer season and is a great place to improve your waterski skills with the help of qualified instructors.

This festival offers a window into Ukrainian history and
incorporates authentic elements from across a range of
different eras including everything from the Middle Ages to
the present day. The festivities are diverse and dynamic, with
arts and crafts alongside literature and period performances.
There is also an accent on contemporary Ukrainian music,
giving the event a traditional festival feel. The Samar Dnipro
Fest is hosted at a cultural heritage site that occupies an
important place in national folklore – Stara Samar Fortress,
which dates back to the Ukrainian Cossack period.
RELIGIOUSLY DIVERSE DNIPRO
Throughout its history, Dnipro has always been home to a
wide variety of different religious communities. This
cosmopolitan heritage is reflected in the presence of
numerous houses of worship that continue to coexist and
function in the city. For example, visitors will find a range of
different Ukrainian Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant
churches to explore. The cityʼs diverse religious traditions
have helped to create a culture of tolerance while providing
a welcoming environment for people of all faiths.
DNIPROʼS ICONIC STONE WOMEN
The Dnipro History Museum is home to one of the worldʼs largest collections of ancient steppe sculptures. A number of
fascinating female statues stand outside the museum, offering an echo of a long-forgotten era when nomadic peoples
dominated the surrounding region. Known to locals as Dniproʼs “Stone Women”, these iconic figures serve as a reminder of the
many different cultures to leave their mark on Ukraine over the centuries. Similar stone statues dot the landscape throughout
todayʼs Ukraine, with many looking out across the countryʼs seemingly endless southern steppe lands. Female figures tend to
dominate this genre of stone sculpture, hinting at ancient associations with fertility.

ATMOSPHERIC AIR MONITORING SYSTEM
Financial resources: External investments
Stage of project readiness: Project proposal
Way of guaranteeing borrowed resources:
Availability of pledged property
Acquisition and maintenance of mobile and stationary
stations of automatic continuous monitoring of atmospheric
air.
The main goal of the establishment of automatic
continuous monitoring stations is the monitoring of
environmental indicators of air pollution and informing the
population about the quality of atmospheric air.
Mobile environmental laboratories are designed to control
environmental pollution and damage to the environment at
a given point of the territory. The modern environmental
laboratory (laboratory of control) allows to assess the
sanitary-hygienic pollution of the air (or air of the working
zone), water, soil in the areas of industrial enterprises. It is
used in carrying out of natural and instrumental surveys of
sources of pollutant emissions into the atmosphere in order
to develop standards for maximum allowable emissions, and
simply for the purpose of state or departmental control.
The proposed system will allow to make operational
decisions in crisis environmental situations and inform the
population about the probable negative impact of the
ecological situation on different groups of the population.
This is the first such project in Ukraine that will attract the
attention of the whole society to environmental problems,
increase awareness and investment attractiveness of the city.

STARYY KODAK
Staryy Kodak is a fortress in the neighborhood of the city
of Dnipro that was built in 1635. This fortress appeared on the
European maps right after it had been built. Its value was in
the fact that it was constructed before the first rapid of the
river Dnipro and that it allowed to control the strategic way
from Zaporizhian Sich to well-settled Ukrainian lands. For the
time being the larger part of it was destroyed by a granite
quarry that was in operation during Soviet Union time.
A part of Kodak was saved however. Itʼs about earthen
berms, ditch and two bastions. The project point is to
reconstruct the external view of the fortress by creation of a
3D model and access points of so-called "complemented
reality" on remains of the construction. It will convert Kodak
into an important tourist object which will be interesting both
for the Ukrainian tourists and for people from Poland,
Lithuania, France, as representatives of these nations have a
direct relation to history of the fortress.
STARA SAMAR
Stara Samar is a settlement that appeared in the first fourth
of the XVI century for maintenance of the trade ferry across
the river Samara. It was used for transit trading and this fact
is confirmed by Polish, Hansa, Dutch, Russian, Tatar and
Turkish coins, product seals, things etc. A lot of
accommodations, an inn and a church have been already
discovered by archaeologists. The remains of the powerful
fortress, that was built by hetman Ivan Mazepa here in 1688
and which was reconstructed in 1730 – years, have been
saved to our time.
Since 2015 the government of the city has been actively
developing this territory. Such events as festivals of
traditional culture, The Day of the City take place here. The
historic & cultural park will be created on this territory. The
remains of accommodations, coins, and weapons have
been found here. In order to make all this legacy available
to tourists, it is supposed to create 3D models and expose
them in the Internet as well as in special information kiosks
on the territory of the fortress.

59. Currently, the city of Dnipro does not have its own city
history museum. Available expositions of the city in other
museums often continue to show the city as a part of Russian
history or Soviet Union history ignoring its Ukrainian basis
and its powerful national minorities, which participated and
still participate in creation of history of the city of Dnipro.
That is why the Museum of History of the city of Dnipro will
be important point for conducting of educational work with
representatives of the city community, as well as a place to
present the city to tourists. Conceptually, the Museum will
differ from existing ones because it will bring a person living
in the city and a person visiting the museum into focus. The
exposition will tell about "a person in city space", "a person in
society", "a person in productive activities" and will use
interactivity and multimedia allowing a participant to feel
empathy and to equate himself with inhabitants of the city of
Dnipro from previous ages.
The Museum of History of the city of Dnipro will be created
in two stages.
The first stage is to create mini-museum in the historical
building under the name "The Governorʼs House" with
parallel preparation of a large exposition. The second stage is
to create the full-scale museum of the city of Dnipro.
