The cardiovascular system consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The heart pumps blood through the blood vessels, supplying oxygen and nutrients to tissues and removing waste. Blood flows from the heart through arteries, then narrows into capillaries where gas and nutrient exchange occurs, and returns to the heart through veins. The cardiovascular system transports nutrients, gases, hormones, and removes waste through the blood in a closed circulatory loop.
