Daily Logs
Monday, January 12, 2015
Today was my first day. We had a staff meeting. I got the jest of how the staff
starts their daily/weekly planning in order to effectively run their different roles in the
organization. I learned more about everyone’s role to keep things operating, and also in-
depth information about the organization’s purposes overall. Also, I got a visual of past
Girlfriend Gala (GG) events, which is one of their biggest fundraising events. We viewed
videos about the non-profit organization as well. I am excited about my internship and all
the things I will learn through it! (More about GG enclosed)
Tuesday, January 13, 2015
Today I was introduced to more tasks that have to be done prior to the Girlfriend
Gala. Girlfriend Gala is a table decorating event that raises money for the Dolly Parton
Imagination Library which provides a child with a book per month until they are 5. I
learned about the order forms that will be flowing in as the event gets closer and what I
would have to do with them. I got a chance to view some of the things for the event such
as shirts and event cups. I organized brochures and books provided by the Success by 6
Program which gives me a chance to become knowledgeable on what they are about.
Wednesday, January 14, 2015
I started out organizing files from previous years. Emily Sims, the Program
Director of Success by 6, and I attended a bi-monthly meeting with the Children’s Policy
Council. I will be working under her this semester. Many community officials were in
attendance such as district court judges to DHR employees, social workers to Board of
Education members and many more. I learned more about what it takes for them to
thoroughly plan an event and their goals for the year. I learned about the different roles
and assets each organization provides in order to act on giving back to the community.
Thursday, January 15, 2015
I began my day with errands to Gadsden Mall and Office Max. I retrieved door
prizes for the Girlfriend Gala and supplies for the office. I continued to help Emily
organize some things around the office. We prepared for the first Girlfriend Gala meeting
of the year. During the meeting the panel discussed upcoming settings to take place and
future information to prepare for the event.

finances, payments, and donations. Also, I accessed outlook to pull up the information to

helps.

but we had to be there at 4:30 to prep for our roles. All interns were basically on stand-by
to run if a committee or staff member needed anything. Eventually they let us free to
enjoy the show and the actual event. A fire-eater performed and other acts just like the
big top. The event turned out amazing and everyone had a great time.

be mailed by bulk.

see what the finances and help that United Way has received from the community has
done. Awards and recognition were given as well. Lunch was provided and we learned of

my mileage and turned in the paper work. I printed my PowerPoint that I worked on for
the Girlfriend Gala for my internship binder and finished working on that. I began

giving women. Also, my fellow JSU interns were a pleasure to meet and work along
with. Emily and I cleaned up and stored some Girlfriend Gala things into the shed. I also
