International student volunteers
International student volunteers have played a major role in international volunteering activities. More
than 50% of all international volunteers are international student volunteers. Bill gate once said he
would be happy to see more young people take action to help the poor. Most of these students are
from universities in developed nations. United Kingdom universities lead in providing many university
international student volunteers followed by the United States of America.
Young people and especially students are believed to be very strong, energetic and more proactive. The
best time to help is when you are strong enough to offer help. International student volunteers
contributions especially to the poor developing countries has been an questionably outstanding. Since
the establishment of KIVOLEX abroad volunteers, we have recruited hundred of international student
volunteers from United Kingdom universities. These international student volunteers have all together
made great change and significant improvement to the lives of poor people especially in Tanzania,
Africa.
In 2010 more than 100 international student volunteers form Newcastle University took time and
offered their amazing services to the children of Arusha in Tanzania East Africa. The trip was nicknamed
Newcastle2kili considering that the students also took part in Kilimanjaro trekking. These students
taught in Arusha Government schools and impacted a lot of knowledge into children of these schools. A
certain portion of Newcastle university international student volunteers also took part in sports training
program for children. They coached in a sport academy teaching children football skills and physical
education. Out of the 100 students there was also a group who took part in the most rewarding project
in Arusha according to KIVOLEX abroad volunteers, the Special need education Project. Teaching and
helping out mentally retarded children is such a rewarding experience. I advice international student
volunteers to try out this project and I believe the experience will be reward just as it was for the past
international student volunteers.
Overall impact made by international student volunteers in 2010
• Taught more than 400 primary school students in Arusha city, Tanzania
• Trained more than 60 children in football skills and techniques
• Helped with movement, handing and motion to more than 60 special need children
• Give out supplies worth more than $2500 in terms of food, clothes, utensils, furniture and the
like
In 2011 we saw rising number in international student volunteer from United Kingdom universities.
More and more students wanted to come and volunteer. A lot of students had decided that it was
worthwhile to offer their time and make a difference in this little corner of the world. As expected the
number shoot to more than 200 students and the number of universities involved went up to 4
universities. This time the trip also included students from Surrey University, Birmingham University and
Nottingham University. The rise in number of students meant the following, which are more change,
more help more difference and more opportunities. We expected more students to be taught, we
expected more children to be trained in sports, we expected more helping in our special need education
centers and we also expected more supplies beating the $2500 value of 2010. Just as we expected
these international student volunteers were magical, the support we got from them was simply
marvelous. The number went up in every section of help they offered, more help came in and more
people and children benefited. This is what it meant:
Overall impact made by international student volunteers in 2011
• They taught more than 1200 primary school students in Arusha city, Tanzania
• They trained more than 200 children in football skills and techniques
• Offered support with movement, handing and motion to more than 180 special need children
• They gave out supplies worth more than $5500 in terms of food, clothes, utensils, furniture and
the like
Here comes the record breaking year of 2012. Everything seemed to be going right in 2012. For the first
time with assistance from international student volunteers we establish our child sponsorship school
project. The project managed to sponsor school fees to more than 200 orphans in Arusha Tanzania.
Coordinated by KIVOLEX director innocent kapilima, the program has ever since done very well. Making
education accessible to those children who couldn’t afford it was the essence of the program. We are
happy to say that we have realized our goal and surpassed it by very far. The Goal was to only sponsor
200 children every year but we are now sponsoring more than 400 children.
The 2012 trip and the volunteers, is another shocking point. The number actually doubles that of 2011.
Supplies were more than double the value of 2011. Help and service form volunteer was simply record
breaking. More than 400 international student volunteers were actively involved in volunteering
program in Arusha, Tanzania during the period of 3 month. This was from June 2012 to august 2012. The
children and people of Arusha and Tanzania in general couldn’t be more thankful.
Record breaking impact made by international student volunteers in 2012
• 3000 and plus primary school students were taught in Arusha city, Tanzania
• 800 children were trained in football skills and techniques
• 400 special need children received support and help
• $10500 worth of food, clothes, utensils, furniture and the like was supplied
Since 2012 we have seen the number of international student volunteers climbing and help increasing. If
we say thank you to the international student volunteers is an understatement. There is nothing
Tanzania and its people can offer to international student volunteers, but Tanzania believes in GOD
hence our prayer are with them.
