7. International Environmental Solutions Sanitation FSDS* - environmentally sensitive sanitation and waste water treatment system FSDS * - Field Septic Disposal System - a development of what was known as BIPU) Advantages Applications Humanitarian Deployment Military Deployment Civil Emergency Deployment
8. International Environmental Solutions Sanitation Advantages Easily assembled No skilled supervision or specialized equipment No moving parts or power supply Any water supply is suitable (except saltwater) All natural processes - with no environmentally damaging chemicals With minimum maintenance FSDS will operate continually for an indefinite period with a rated life in excess of 15 years Unlike other systems, FSDS can connect to standard or oriental flushing toilet using standard plumbing fittings. No discharges to harm the environment Lightweight construction allows for easy transport and system installation
9. International Environmental Solutions Sanitation Applications FSDS can be installed in any location where there is no sewage service, and in particular is well suited to locations that have difficult topography and where adjacent water catchment areas require an environmentally sensitive approach to water treatment. No skilled supervision or specialized equipment FSDS can be utilized in a variety of applications: Comfort stations Rest stops National Parks Domestic applications Commercial Forestry camps
10. International Environmental Solutions Sanitation FSDS - Humanitarian Deployment FSDS has assisted already in relieving the potential suffering of many thousands of displaced persons in times of crises. FSDS's humanitarian deployment applications include, but are not limited to : Displaced person camps UN and NGO Agency operational support accommodation Schools Villages Emergency hospitals
11. International Environmental Solutions Sanitation FSDS - Military Deployment Military operations require the rapid deployment of substantial numbers of personnel into areas with either no or a disrupted sanitation and sewerage infrastructure system. The FSDS basic deployable sanitation system was originally designed for use by the Australian Defense Force (ADF) in remote, non serviced or disrupted areas. The FSDS fully satisfies the ADF's environmental management requirement for sewage treatment systems which are required to remove nutrients, treat and dispose of sewerage wastewater that are also simple and reliable. At Comoro Airfield Security requirements prevented the use of portable toilets that required daily servicing using sewage pump out trucks Systems can be installed in less than 4 hours. Disease control through safe sanitation, sewage treatment and disposal is vital to ensure force sustainability over extended periods.
12. International Environmental Solutions Sanitation FSDS - Civil Emergency Deployment The basic sanitation system was originally designed for use by the Australian Defense Force (ADF) in remote, non serviced or disrupted areas. The basic design and low cost installation makes it an ideal system for deployment in civil emergency situations. The system is provided in a flat packed easily assembled kits. Each chamber pack weighs approximately 15 Kg, so units can be installed quickly without the need for specialist equipment in any soil type including areas with high seasonal water tables. Each system chamber requires a hole approximately 600mm square and 1000mm deep. Chambers may be installed as close a 1 (one) metre to a building. Systems may remain in place indefinitely or be recovered (less the liner) for reuse.
