The New Old: No One Wants To Hire A Person Over 40 by Caroline Smigocki (Form...Hilary Ip
When you hear about “ageism in the workplace”, you may have visions of a dinosaur employee that has been with the company for 25 years and still has “surfing the net” in their everyday lexicon. After being laid off due to a reduction in staff, Caroline Smigocki entered the job hunt not even considering she’d run into ageism. Heightening tech skills and showing enthusiasm were only so helpful. The stories of discrimination and implicit bias that she faced were shocking and disheartening. Listen to her journey and how she ultimately convinced them that age ain’t nothing but a number.
The document presents a proposal for the structural system of a two-story office building in Järnbrott. It evaluates different structural concepts before selecting a timber structure with a timber slab, timber columns and beams, and cross-laminated timber walls. It describes the structural layout, behavior under loads, member sizing, important connections, production considerations, and need for further investigation of the foundation, facade, and bracing system.

What interior design teaches us about environment art dan coxMary Chan
This talk will discuss the parallels between interior design techniques and level art and design. Interior designers create spaces which inform people to the function and aesthetics of a space, just as we do in game development. We will examine how interior designers and environment artists are alike, the rules found in interior design, and why they are used. We will then explore how these rules can be applied in modern game spaces and the ways they can change our visual storytelling tool sets.
The document discusses various elements of design including space, line, form, texture, and principles of design such as proportion, scale, balance, rhythm, emphasis, and unity and variety. It provides examples of how these different elements and principles can be used to create specific feelings and effects in a design. For instance, large open spaces can create feelings of freedom while small spaces feel cozy, and diagonal lines convey excitement and movement.
