This document lists the four main families of musical instruments: woodwind instruments, string instruments, percussion instruments, and brass instruments. Woodwind instruments include instruments like flutes and clarinets that are played by blowing air through them. String instruments are played by plucking or bowing strings like guitars, violins, and harps. Percussion instruments are instruments played by striking or shaking them like drums, cymbals, and triangles. Brass instruments are played by buzzing lips into a mouthpiece like trumpets, trombones, and tubas.
