"WE LOVE LA!"
By: Natalya Pyatkovska
There are numerous qualities that make Los Angeles such a special place to live.
From the location and the weather to the people and the city's liveliness, many
agree that Los Angeles is the place to be. Your NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers
were asked to discuss what they love most about living in the "City of Angels."
DJ Mbenga appreciates the city's diversity the most. "My favorite thing about Los
Angeles is that it is very diverse; you can find people from all nationalities." Lamar
Odom likes a number of things, but especially L.A.'s location. "I love the weather
and the shopping, but what I like most is how you're able to go from the desert, to
the beach, then to the mountains in like two
hours. You can do everything." For Jordan
Farmar, Los Angeles has always been home.
"I'm from Los Angeles so being able to play at
home is great. I get to spend time with my
family, and of course, the weather is
beautiful." Sasha Vujacic is fond of every
aspect of the city. "Is it cheesy if I say I love
everything? It's very multicultural and it's a
city that offers everything to anyone. You can
find your own feet and discover what you like
the most. It's very special and like the song
says 'I love L.A.!'"
Los Angeles is full of beautiful sites, especially
the beaches where Lakers players often find
themselves spending time on the oceanfront.
Jordan Farmar revealed, "I live close to the
water so I like to go down to Manhattan
Beach. It's a great atmosphere and you can't really enjoy that type of scenery in
too many other places in the world." Sasha Vujacic agreed and added, "I love the
South Bay; it is kind of like home. People are nice and living close to the ocean is
very peaceful. If you're up or down, sometimes you can just go out there and you
can clear your mind. It's a very spiritual thing for me."
Furthermore, Los Angeles offers countless possibilities and activities. DJ Mbenga
likes to stay involved in the community. "When I'm not playing basketball, I like to
give back. I spend a lot of my free time working with my foundation." Lamar Odom
takes pleasure in the simple things. "I love just relaxing and enjoying the weather
here. While it's cold or rainy in other places, the sun seems to always be shining
here. L.A. has the perfect weather. I love just
relaxing and taking walks on the beach."
Jordan Farmar agreed with his teammate and
added that he likes to, "Relax. That's why I
like the beach and that whole atmosphere. I
also like to go to the movies instead of doing
too many strenuous activities outside of
basketball." Vujacic enjoys a great variety of
activities. "I just like to hang out with my
friends, family and people that I love and care
about. I will go to the movies sometimes, but
I really like to read a lot. It's one of the best
things, just going to the ocean with a good
book. What's not to like? I also enjoy playing
volleyball on the beach and enjoying the great
golf courses around here."
Finally, we can't forget about the vast
selection of restaurants located throughout the Los Angeles area. DJ Mbenga
disclosed, "I like Italian food and my favorite is probably going to Ago." Lamar
Odom revealed, "I guess my favorite restaurant would be The Lobster on the Santa
Monica Pier." Jordan Farmar likes, "Breakfast at Uncle Bill's Pancake House down in
Manhattan Beach. I also love steakhouses like Mastro's and Boa." Sasha Vujacic has
one heck of an appetite that starts with, "My mom's kitchen. She's a really good
cook. We joke with her by saying her kitchen
is her little restaurant. In Hollywood and
Westwood, and on the West Side, you have a
lot of good restaurants and it's hard to pick
one. But my favorite would definitely be my
mom's cooking. There are also so many good
Italian and Sushi places. I learned about sushi
a lot when I first got here as a rookie and
since then, it has been one of my top
favorites. I have to have sushi at least a
couple of times a week. And lastly, we can't
forget about In-N-Out Burger. That's very
California; I haven't met a person yet who
doesn't like In-N-Out Burger."
So, is there anything that Lakers players don't
love about this city? Sasha Vujacic said,
"There's nothing. No complaints. I think traffic
sometimes is a little bit too crazy but it can't be perfect. If it were perfect, then we
would not be able to live in it. It has much more ups so you forget about the
downs." Jordan Farmar agreed. "I don't like traffic too much so I don't go too many
places. But everything else I love about it."
With all the places to see, things to do, and food to try, Los Angeles can only truly
be experienced by living here. Lakers players can easily vouch that this is a special
place, and without a doubt, they unconditionally love this city of Los Angeles and its
people.
