The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new EU law that strengthens and unifies data protection for all individuals within the European Union. It aims to give control back to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU. The GDPR came into effect on May 25, 2018 and replaces the 1995 Data Protection Directive.
