The number of news channels in India has increased dramatically from 23 in 2003 to 122 in 2010. The majority of news coverage on Indian channels is focused on political/government news (28.1%), crime/law and order (23.9%), and entertainment (19.1%). However, coverage of controversies (26%), exaggerating small issues (16%), and Bollywood gossip (14%) is also significant. Indian news channels are more focused on controversies, celebrities' private lives, and magnifying minor issues than substantive news.
