Indian Banking Moving towards a new landscape

Economic Backdrop The banking sector, being the barometer of the economy, is reflective of the macro-economic variables. As per the RBI Financial Stability Report Dec '14, the global economy was a mixed state of affairs the last year. While economic growth finds hold in US, it appears to be going weaker in Euro areas and reversing in Japan. Any economic conflicts in China will add to the pressure. Thus, the global economic prospects remain uncertain. Stock markets around the world, particularly in advanced economies (AEs) have been buoyant off late with relatively lower volatility.

Las bolsas europeas cerraron por segundo día consecutivo al alza lideradas por los sectores Energético y Servicios Públicos, gracias al alza del precio del crudo hasta su mayor nivel en el año. En el contexto macro, las autoridades de la zona euro postergaron una reunión sobre el rescate financiero del país griego, que lastró a la bolsa de Atenas.

Wall Street culminó su sesión en terreno mixto tras el anuncio de la Fed sobre la ralentización del alza de la tasa de interés. El avance fue impulsada por los sectores Energía y Servicios Públicos que fue compensado por la baja en los sectores Tecnológico y Salud. En la víspera, el gigante tecnológico Apple publicó decepcionantes resultados durante el 1T2016. En particular, las ventas del iPhone se redujeron en 16% hasta $51.2 MM y alcanzan así su primera caída en la historia. El día de mañana se publica el dato del PBI del 1T2016.

El tipo de cambio cerró la sesión al alza en S/. 3.288 en una jornada volátil y alcanzó su mayor nivel en 2 semanas, luego del anuncio de la Fed sobre los tipos de interés, que originó que los bancos eleven sus posiciones en dólares. Por su parte, el BCRP colocó swap cambiarios
por S/ 815 MM y Certificados de Depósito Reajustable (CDR) por S/ 91 MM. De este modo, el dólar acumula un retroceso de 3.69% en el 2016

La Diputada Federal del PAN Brenda Velázquez presentó una iniciativa para incrementar el presupuesto destinado a la Cultura a por lo menos el 1% del PIB, en comparación con el 8% mínimo destinado a Educación. Actualmente, el presupuesto para Cultura es de solo el 0.09% del PIB. Velázquez argumenta que este incremento es una inversión necesaria para que todos los mexicanos tengan acceso al patrimonio artístico y expresiones culturales del país.

The present domestic market conditions do not provide enough opportunities for the MSME sector for raising low cost funds. To improve the flow of credit there is a need to provide low cost finance to the MSME sector, which has limited working capital and is dependent exclusively on finance from public sector banks. The cost of credit in the Indian MSME sector is higher than its international peers.
