Five students from the Govt. Primary School-Kavadiguda in Hyderabad, India have come together with their mentor teacher and a local women's group to promote eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. They plan to hold workshops on making clay Ganesh idols, competitions for most eco-friendly mandals and households, and exhibitions to raise awareness about alternatives to environmentally harmful plaster of Paris idols. The goal is to educate the community about celebrating the festival in an environmentally sustainable way and to reduce sound and other pollution.
