Tourism plays an important role in many countries' economies. However, both the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing geo-political risks have significantly impacted the tourism industry. The pandemic led to strict travel restrictions and border closures, causing a 65% reduction in international tourist movement. It also negatively affected many livelihoods that depend on tourism. Meanwhile, rising geo-political tensions and conflicts like the war in Ukraine have caused volatility in economies and made some destinations seem less safe, reducing tourism. While travel is increasing as restrictions ease, challenges like high fuel prices, workforce shortages, and lack of confidence persist. International cooperation will be key to rebuilding the tourism sector.
