This document provides instructions for students to work in groups to create a movie trailer summarizing key events from the chapter "In Like a Lion" from the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Students are tasked with reviewing the chapter, identifying main events, filling out worksheets, using the iMovie app to film scenes and add text, and presenting a 1-1.5 minute trailer. Guidelines are provided around group roles and responsibilities, filming safely, and a rubric for assessment.

SWBAT: Effectively work with two-three people to create a short movie trailer about the
chapter “In Like a Lion” from the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian.
SWBAT: Sequence main events and main ideas from the chapter “In Like a Lion”. You
effective work in groups of 2-3.
Tasks
1. Review Chapter “In Like a Lion” as a group and circle key moments that you would
like to use in your iMovie.
2. Review Timeline Worksheet (with pictures).
3. As a group- Decide what key events you want to use and make sure these events
are in the order which they occur in the chapter.
4. Everyone in your group must fill out Main Events of “In Like a Lion”
Worksheet before starting your movie.
5. Pick an iMovie Trailer Format (For example: Expedition, Adrenaline, Teen)
6. Fill Out IMovie Planner Worksheet. Everyone in the group must fill it out.

3. How to Create an iMovie Trailer
 Using iMovie app hit “+” symbol.
 A New Project box will pop up.
 Click on “Trailer”
 Choose a trailer template that will work best for your chapter.
 Click “Create” in the right hand corner of your iPad.
 An Outline and a Story board will appear on the left.
 As a group fill out “Movie Name”, Choose a Studio Logo (using the tiny scroll
down arrows), and fill in “Credits”.
 Click on “Story Board” to create your trailer.
You May Use-
 -Camera App Video and Camera, or saved pictures from your “Photos” to re-
create the scenes.
 -Text box appears as “Blue Strips”. You may type on this to describe what is
happening in each scene.

4.  -Please write in complete sentences for each blue text box.
 -Be sure to use correct spelling and grammar.
 -Make sure your chapter is accurate and you have explain enough to give the
audience a good idea of what the chapter was about.
 -Please work well in your groups and divide work up accordingly.
 -Your Trailer should be 1 minute to 1:30 minutes long.

Rules for a Safe iMovie Assignment-
 Remember if you film in the hall- you need a pass and need to be in a place
where I can see you.
 You can’t film in the bathroom.
 Please do not be loud in the hall since others are learning.
 You may use my room to film but be courteous of others.
 You should be able to show this film to the principle(it must be appropriate
in every way).
 You must be respectful in every way during this assignment (keep your hands
to yourself).
 No Running in the hall.
 Stay away from the stair wells.
If any of the rules are broken- you may be asked to do an alternative
assignment.
