now when?

• Creating a Sustainable Risk Management Policy
14:45 Afternoon Coffee
15:10 Case studies
• Case studies on market risk management for commodity and foreign exchange risks. A look at some good
examples, some not so good examples and a quick look at why some of the oft-quoted
“Hedging Disasters” of the past were often not hedging at all.
16:00 Questions and discussions
16:30 End of Workshop
Revenue management, Price Protection, Hedging - call it what
you like – has been much maligned in the recent past but more
and more companies are looking in the rear view mirror and
wondering why they didn’t and if they should start.
As the title of the course suggests, the questions about whether
to hedge, when to hedge and how to hedge seldom change,
but external events outside a company’s control mean the
answers are constantly changing, sometimes in very short
periods. Noah’s Rule’s approach, best described as “Inside-Out”
concentrates on recognising first what a company can do to
improve its tolerance to risk before considering what the markets
to which it is exposed might do.
09:00 – 16:30 - Level 2 MR 218,

Orica is pleased to host its second annual IMARC Blasting Workshop, and this year’s focus is
on the opportunity to drive systematic productivity improvements through smart use of data and
measurement systems.
This will be a collaborative forum in which participants are encouraged to:
• Share current mining challenges and key metrics
• Explore current measurement techniques, data gaps and innovation opportunities
• Understand the available ways of tracking costs and value at each stage in the value chain
• Explore ways to tie each stage together into a logical value calculator for the total mining
operation
• Learn about recent case studies of best practice
The productivity that can be achieved through systemic improvements can far exceed that of
input cost reduction or initiatives to optimise any one stage in isolation. Accurate and timely data
can provide the detailed insights required to continually deliver bottom line value over multiple
time horizons.
With a natural focus on blasting, this workshop is open to explore all aspects of mining. The
success of the workshop will largely be driven by the willingness of participants to share insights
on their mining metrics and measurement systems.
Workshop. Monday 9 November
Orica’s Blasting Workshop: Data driven mining productivity
Occurring early in the mining value chain, blasting can
enable significant productivity in both upstream and
downstream processes. This can deliver measurable
improvements throughout drilling, excavating, loading,
hauling and processing.

jersey, Gerrans is a bone fide Australian success story.
Orica invites delegates to see Simon give a
presentation over lunch in the Delegate Hosplitality
Area on Wednesday 11 November at 13:15 - 13:45.
No registration required.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to meet Simon
