DUSSHERA CULTURAL FEST
A fund raiser event for the cause of literacy

2. ABOUT INDIA LITERACY PROJECT
India Literacy Project (ILP) is a non-profit organization founded in 1990,
in
the USA, by an enthusiastic group of Non-Resident Indians, who
passionately believed in the goal of a one hundred percent literate
India.
The Hyderabad chapter of ILP is
a. actively working with five government schools in Madhapur and
Kondapur area to strengthen the quality of education in these
schools
b. running a community library in the Madhapur area for last 9 months
- daily children from nearby Government schools come to the library
and spend more than an hour there.
c. sponsoring the education of 10 children in class X and XI from the
Rickshaw Puller colony in Kukatpally.
3. SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF THIS FUND RAISER
1. Scholarships for economically underprivileged students.
80% of the funds raised will be allocated for this.
2. Expansion of the library for the less privileged children.
5% of funds raised will go for this
3. Infrastructure needs of schools in dire conditions - about
15 % of funds raised will be allocated to this.
For example:
– Izzat Nagar School - near Novotel. A 2 room school with one room
serving as the staff room cum principal's office cum store room for the
provisions for the mid-day meal. Multiple classes are held in the same
room simultaneously
– Parvath Nagar School – Has two rooms, a verandah and a court yard
constitute the entire school. Part of the verandah also serves as a
kitchen. Unsafe due to the proximity and risk of fire.
4. Any additional funds will be used to implement a mobile
library project.
4. ABOUT THE EVENT
ILP Fund Raising Dinner and Dusshera Fest
To be held at Jayabheri Silicon County on September 19th,
2009.
Agenda:
Cultural Programs, Walk the Ramp by IT Professionals,
Games stalls for children, Musical performance and DJ.
Attendees:
400 to 500 residents from about 15 housing communities in
and around Madhapur. Target complexes include Jayabheri,
SMR Vinay, Shilpa Park, MyHome Nawadweep, Dream Valley
to name a few.
Most of them are employees of companies like Microsoft, CA,
Accenture, Deloitte, Google, Amazon etc.
Most of the volunteers are residents of these complexes and
are employees of above mentioned companies.
