Getting AHP's into shape to grasp emerging opportunities - Sheila MorrisSHUAHP
The document discusses opportunities for allied health professionals (AHPs) in the English NHS. It notes the increasing demands on the health system from factors like an aging population and lifestyle diseases. The Five Year Forward View identifies gaps in health/wellbeing, care/quality, and funding. New care models and a focus on prevention, population health, and partnerships across sectors could help address these gaps. The document outlines ways AHPs can contribute in areas like new models of care, outcomes measurement, leadership, research, and innovation.
The document provides detailed instructions for humanely trapping feral or community cats through a process called Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). It explains that TNR involves trapping cats, having them sterilized and vaccinated by a veterinarian, and then returning them to their outdoor habitat. The instructions outline key steps like fasting cats before trapping, using smelly food like tuna as bait, lining traps with newspaper, and properly setting and covering traps to safely transport cats to be sterilized and vaccinated, with the goal of reducing cat overpopulation and euthanasia in animal shelters.
Alley Cats Allies has documented statistics that prove that the Trap-Neuter-Release model for feral cats is the most effective plan for controlling and reducing cat colonies. http://bit.ly/1GS1lO8
ICAWC 2012: Ian MacFarlaine - Feline Advisory Bureau: "Keep 'em or street 'em...Dogs Trust
The Feline Advisory Bureau is a UK charity founded in 1958 to improve knowledge of cat care, husbandry, and veterinary treatment when little was known. It remains committed to this goal through its veterinary division and international cat welfare projects focused on training and local expertise rather than being a visiting resource.
The document discusses Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) principles and practices for feral cat populations. It describes how TNR involves trapping free-roaming cats, neutering them, and returning them to their original habitat. It provides details on the charity Cats Protection's large-scale TNR efforts in the UK, capturing over 160,000 cats in 2008. It also compares TNR for cats versus dogs and outlines best practices for trapping, transporting, surgery, post-op care, and releasing cats back into the wild.
This document discusses feral cat overpopulation and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) as a humane approach to population management. It notes that cats reproduce quickly and there are more free-roaming cats than owned cats. TNR stabilizes populations by spaying/neutering cats and vaccinating them before returning them to their colony. When done comprehensively, TNR reduces complaints, shelter intake and euthanasia. It outlines best practices for trapping, transporting and returning cats to minimize stress. Young kittens are recommended for rehoming rather than returning to colonies due to high mortality risks.

Delivery of animal health services in extensive livestock production systems ...ILRI
This document discusses animal health service delivery in extensive livestock production systems in Kenya. It notes that while successes have been achieved with motorcycles, the nomadic nature of pastoral systems makes regular service delivery challenging due to low population densities, poor infrastructure, and a weak cash economy. The government provides some services through county-level offices and intermittent programs, but coverage is sporadic. Private providers fill some gaps but may provide low-quality or illegal drugs. Community-based approaches are controversial, and more regulation of veterinary medicines is needed. Field days and internship programs help improve veterinary-farmer contact and education.

Veterinary Services (ICVS) was
founded in 2006 to raise the level of
animal health care and animal
welfare in the People’s Republic of
China
• ICVS provides world-class animal
medical care and owner education
to help pets live longer, healthier
and happier lives
• ICVS serves as a bridge between
China and the world to promote
veterinary education, scientific
advances in veterinary medicine,
veterinary learning exchange and
humane animal welfare practices
2
3. What Inspired the Idea for Change?
• It all started with one cat…
• No international standard veterinary hospital
in Beijing (or China) in 1994 when Co-
Founder, Mary Peng, first adopted a cat
• Industry focused on livestock production
and large animals (e.g., cows, pigs, sheep,
chickens, etc.)
• Repatriated to the USA in 1996 and
returned to China in 2002 with her cat
• In 2004, sought veterinary care for cat in
Beijing and realized the companion animal
healthcare industry had not progressed in
past decade: Still no facility dedicated to
treatment of pets and small animals
• Identified market potential and opportunity
to become the force for change in the PRC
veterinary industry
• Created and launched ICVS in 2006, the
first full-service animal medical care and pet
care facility for companion animals in ChinaMary Peng, Co-Founder & CEO, with Golden Retriever

Neuter-Return (TNR) programs adapted to the
local environment to reduce the abandoned
and stray animal populations

animals and provide non-profit canine
obedience training programs to maximize
successful adoptions and minimize shelter
returns
6
8. ICVS Non-Profit Humane Animal Welfare Programs
• Facing a growing pet population in a market with few government or NGO
sponsored animal welfare programs, ICVS created professionally
managed Non-Profit Humane Animal Welfare Programs to address these
critical needs in the community
• ICVS currently funds all of these programs directly with the donation of its
hospital facilities, medical equipment and supplies, veterinarian and
medical staff skills and administration and management resources
• With the lack of presence and restrictions on activities by animal welfare
organizations such as the SPCA, ASPCA, Humane Society, etc., ICVS
has filled this void for the community
• The demands of a growing pet population means ICVS now urgently
needs additional funding support to continue our work and to maintain our
animal welfare programs for the community.

medical care. All services are currently provided by ICVS through the donation of its
