This document describes an experiment on separating a tertiary butyl alcohol-water azeotropic mixture using lithium bromide salt. Tertiary butyl alcohol and water form an azeotrope that is difficult to separate. The experiment investigated adding varying amounts of lithium bromide salt to the azeotropic mixture during extractive distillation. It was found that adding 35g of lithium bromide allowed 88.98% of the tertiary butyl alcohol to be separated, breaking up the azeotrope more effectively than using a solvent alone. Lithium bromide increased the boiling point of the mixture and changed the relative volatility between tertiary butyl alcohol and water, facilitating their separation

Objective(s): Nanoemulsions are a kind of emulsions that can be transparent, translucent (size range 50-200 nm) or “milky” (up to 500 nm). Nanoemulsions are adequatly effective for transfer of active component through skin which facilitate the entrance of the active component . The transparent nature of the system and lack of the thickener and fluidity are among advantages of nanoemulsion.
Materials and Methods: In this study, a nanoemulsion of lemon oil in water was prepared by the phase inversion temperature (PIT) emulsification method in which the tween 40 was used as surfactant. The effect of concentration of NaCl in aqueous phase, pH and weight percent of surfactant and aqueous on the PIT and droplet size were investigated. Results: The results showed that with increasing of concentration of NaCl from 0.05 M to 1 M, PIT decrease from 72 to 50. The average droplet sizes, for 0.1, 0.5 and 1 M of NaCl in 25 ºC are 497.3, 308.1 and 189.9 nm, respectively and the polydispersity indexes are 0.348, 0.334 and 0.307, respectively.
Conclusion: Considering the characteristics of nanoemulsions such as being transparent, endurance of solution and droplet size can provide suitable reaction environment for polymerization process used in making hygienic and medical materials.

This document describes several experiments investigating the kinetics and rates of various chemical reactions through measuring changes over time. It includes studying the effect of temperature on the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide and determining the activation energy using the iodine clock reaction. Other proposed experiments examine the rates of dissolution of seashells in carbonated water, dissolving of candies in water at different temperatures, and decolorization of dyes with changes in reactants.
This experiment compares yeast fermentation of glucose and starch by measuring optical density, index of refraction, specific gravity, percentage of alcohol and sugar over several days. Yeast, glucose or starch, nutrients and water were added to flasks which were placed on stir plates with stoppers to prevent oxygen and create an anaerobic environment. Measurements showed glucose fermentation resulted in higher optical density, specific gravity, and percentage of alcohol and lower percentage of sugars compared to starch fermentation over the same time period. The document discusses several issues and questions around interpreting the data and calculating biomass yield, substrate utilization, and growth rates.

The document summarizes research on the effect of cathode stoichiometric ratio on the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) under cold operating conditions. It describes the background on PEMFCs and motivation for studying cold start performance. The project investigated how output voltage of a PEMFC is affected by changing the cathode stoichiometric ratio at room temperature, 0°C, and -3°C. Results showed that increasing the ratio improved performance at room temperature and 0°C but had little effect at -3°C, likely due to ice formation blocking gas flow. Recommendations to address sources of error in the experiment are also provided.

The document summarizes two experiments comparing cellular respiration and fermentation. The first experiment finds that an Elodea plant had a higher cellular respiration rate than a snail per mL. The second experiment tested how different variables like yeast, glucose, and sodium fluoride affected fermentation in yeast, finding that yeast and glucose increased carbon dioxide production while sodium fluoride decreased it. Both experiments demonstrate the differences between cellular respiration and fermentation.
Study of yeast and sugar in bio-energy generationjournalBEEI
This paper demonstrates a simple and cost-effective bio-energy generation through biochemical reaction between yeast and sugar. Correlation of energy released between baker yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae concentration and sugar solution concentration can be observed significantly over laboratory works. A certain number of electrons is released during the process of ethanol fermentation, in which sugars are broken down into ethanol and carbon dioxide. Consequently, bio-energy can be captured via two copper rods during the fermentation period from different concentration variables using the principle of microbial fuel cell (MFC). In this case, yeast and sugar have been selected as the concentration variables. The experiment works concluded that higher concentration of sugar solution correlates to the increment of energy output. However, the concentration of sugar beyond 0.6g/ml causes instability of the energy output. At the same time, another considerable limiting factor of the energy output is the area of separation membrane. The overabundance of sugar concentration can lead to adverse effects in harvesting the bio-energy.
IRJET- Performance Evaluation of Anaerobic Digestion of Food WasteIRJET Journal
This document summarizes research evaluating the performance of anaerobic digestion of food waste. The study used a batch digester with a 20 L capacity to digest a mixture of cow dung, inoculum, and water, as well as food waste collected from a hostel. Parameters like pH, temperature, volatile fatty acids, alkalinity, chemical oxygen demand, and volatile suspended solids were analyzed. Results showed biogas production was highest at a pH of 7.8 and temperatures between 35-38°C. Chemical oxygen demand removal and biogas production were positively correlated. Maximum biogas production of 7,750 ml/day occurred at an organic loading rate of 1.0 g volatile suspended solids/L/day
This document summarizes a study on lithium recovery from geothermal waters in Cesano, Italy and Cronembourg, France. Experiments were conducted using reconstituted samples from the two locations to test lithium extraction under varying conditions. Key findings include:
- High lithium recovery (over 50%) was achieved without prior treatment, at temperatures similar to the original fluids, and with relatively low aluminum additions.
- Higher temperature, initial Al/Li ratio, and pH increased lithium recovery rates and yields for both fluids. Over 95% recovery was reached with an Al/Li ratio of 2.76.
- Good lithium extraction was possible within minutes at the original pH of the fluids using small

ABSTRACT: We synthesized some 1,4-diones by reductive dimerization of α-bromocetones in the presence of the [Cr(en)2] 2+ complex in DMF. (S)-4-benzyl-3-(2-chloroacetyl)-oxazolidin-2-one was subjected to the same procedure used to obtain 1,4-bis[(S)-4-benzyl-2-oxooxazolidin-3-yl]butane-1,4- dione. The water liquor from this procedure generated a gel, which was analyzed by EM-FAB, TGa, DSC, TEM, SEM/EDS and EDS. Analyses by these techniques confirm that the gel afforded is a nanostructured material and that it gelled water and DMF
Abstract— Thermally Simulated Depolarization Current measurement is an excellent but not widely used method for identifying relaxation processes in polymers. The TSDC method is used here to analyze the molecular movements in biopolymers. Differential Scanning Calorimetry is a technique used to measure thermal properties of polymers based on the rate at which they absorb heat energy compared to a reference material. The two techniques take advantage of the energy changes involved in the various phase transitions of certain polymer molecules. This allows for several properties of the material to be ascertained; melting points, enthalpies of melting, crystallization temperatures, glass transition temperatures and degradation temperatures. The examined biopolymer films are made from biological materials such as proteins and polysaccharides. These materials have gained wide usage in pharmaceutical, medical and food areas. The uses of biopolymer films depend on their structure and mechanical properties. This work is based on three types of alginate, and gelatin films. The films were prepared by casting. The casting technique used aqueous solutions in each case of sample preparation. The manufacturing process of the sodium alginate and gelatin films was a single stage solving process, and for the calcium alginate and alginic acid have a chemical reaction process.

Several reports on degradation of HA involving microwaves,
UV or γ-rays have been published. Rheological studies
also show that HA solutions degrade at high temperature:
viscosity of the solutions decreases in time as a function
of temperature. Therefore, the thermal sterilization
treatment of HA solutions represents a great challenge. An
optimized moist-heat sterilization cycle can minimize product
degradation (and change of molecular weight) maintaining
the required viscosity for the specific application.
Analytical Monitoring Of Alcoholic Fermentation Using NIR SpectroscopyRichard Hogue
This document discusses using near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to develop calibration models for monitoring various parameters during alcoholic fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts. Samples were obtained from fermentation runs and prepared in the laboratory to span relevant concentration ranges. Reference methods were used to determine glucose, ethanol, biomass, glycerol, and acidity levels. Partial least squares models were developed using NIR spectra and reference values. The models effectively predicted glucose, ethanol, and biomass concentrations and allowed real-time monitoring of fermentation progress.
The document discusses several experiments on factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions:
1. Particle size - Comparing the reaction of dilute HCl with large vs. small marble chips to see how particle size impacts the reaction rate. Smaller particles react faster due to a greater surface area.
2. Catalyst - Adding manganese dioxide speeds up the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water, showing how a catalyst increases the reaction rate without being used up in the reaction.
3. Temperature - Measuring the time it takes for tablets to dissolve in hot, room temperature, and cold water, demonstrating that higher temperatures increase molecular motion and collision frequency, speeding up reactions.
Pyroligneous Liquor Produced at Different Heating Rates in Pyrolysis of Eucal...CrimsonpublishersMCDA
The objective of this research was to analyze the influence of two different heating rates (2.67 °C/min, 0.67 °C/min), reaching 500 °C as final temperature in pyrolysis, on the chemical composition of the pyroligneous liquor produced. Three pyrolysis sessions were performed for each heating rate on Eucalyptus urograndis wood chips in an oven-muffle connected to a gas-collecting system. The gravimetric yield was calculated, and the chemical compounds of pyroligneous liquors were identified through gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. Heating rates did not affect the gravimetric yield of final products. However, qualitative differences were observed in the chemical composition of pyroligneous liquors produced. The presence of 1-hidroxy 2-propanone, 4-methylphenol (p-cresol), and 5-hidroxymethyl 2-furaldehyde compounds was detected only in the pyroligneous liquor produced at the highest heating rate (2.67 °C/min).

Enthalpy of formation of magnesium oxidesreshtha95
This document describes an experiment to determine the enthalpy of formation of magnesium oxide (MgO) through calorimetry. Three chemical reactions are used: 1) Mg + 2HCl → MgCl2 + H2; 2) MgO + 2HCl → MgCl2 + H2; 3) H2 + 1/2O2 → H2O. The enthalpy of formation of MgO is calculated by adding the enthalpies of reactions 1 and 3 and subtracting the enthalpy of reaction 2. Data on temperature changes is collected when Mg and MgO are added to HCl solution. The enthalpy of formation is found to be 590 kJ/mol,
The document describes a lab experiment on alcoholic fermentation in yeast. Students are asked to make predictions about how different sugar sources will affect fermentation rates. They set up bottles with yeast, water, and either corn syrup, table sugar, or artificial sweetener. Balloons on the bottles measure CO2 production, the dependent variable, every 10 minutes for 60 minutes. Results are recorded and graphed to analyze which sugar source supports the fastest fermentation rate, revealing the role of glucose in the process.
This document summarizes the benefits of implementing a temperature phased anaerobic digestion (TPAD) process with thermophilic and mesophilic stages in series at the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant. Key benefits included a 67% increase in methane production, a 19% increase in volatile solids destruction, and pathogen indicator reductions meeting biosolids standards. The thermophilic digester commissioning process faced challenges like foaming and odor but was successful due to detailed planning and mitigation measures.
Dynamic Heat Transfer modeling, and Simulation of Biomass Fermentation during...ijtsrd
The study focuses on the modeling of the temperature profile during the fermentation of beer and the selection of the modelled temperature to simulate the growth of a microorganism, the consumption of proteins and the formation of aromatic compounds ketone and esters . The objective of the study was to determine how to select the best temperature for beer fermentation and how a portion of the biochemical reaction occurs with the controlled selected temperature. Finite element modelling has been used for heat transfer modelling and COMSOL Multiphysics version 5.3 has been used for implementation. Version 17 of MATLAB was used to simulate biochemical changes with the chosen temperature. The simulated results showed that at high coolant flow, a low temperature profile was recorded over the fermentation time. As such, the observed temperatures were 1.2m3 hr, 1.3m3 hr and 1.6m3 h, 20 oC, 18 oC and 12.5 oC, respectively. The modelled vorticity results also indicated that at a flow rate of 1.2m3 hr, there was a consistent flow of liquid around the agitation center relative to other coolant flows. Isoleucine was exhausted after 13hr at 12.5°C, 80hr at 18°C and 16hr at 20°C from the start of fermentation. The simulated results also indicated that ethyl acetate had reached a hold back value of 0.114mol m3 at 70hr at 12.5oC, 30hr at 18oC, and 22hr at 20oC. However, isoamyl acetate retained a retention value of 0.0105 mol m3 until the initial concentration of sugar and amino acids was exhausted throughout fermentation at all selected temperatures. Valine decreased to nearly 195hr at 12.5°C, 120hr at 18°C and 85hr at 20°C. The simulated nutrient results were again shown to be zero in 210hr at 12.5°C, 110hr at 18°C and 90hr at 20°C of luicine consumption. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

ABSTRACT
An experimental device was developed for the ice slurry generation with sugar-ethanol aqueous solution. Different
concentrations were used for futures application in freezing for conservation and transports. Temperatures varying
with time were measured in the ice slurry generator. The temperature sensors were type K thermocouples, a data
acquisition is a multifunctional system with acquisition interval of 1 second. The results indicate that the ice slurry
generation depends on the sugar and ethanol concentration. The ice slurries generation with sugar-ethanol aqueous
solution, can be applied for the product cooling with low tolerance to ice slurry generated with high ethanol, sugar
and sodium chloride concentrations.
1. INTRODUCTION
Ice slurries are also known under the trade names of Flo-Ice, Binary Ice, or Pumpable Ice. At the moment, the ice
slurry generation, is oriented to the use of components that are adapted to the product to be cooled, for example,
with sodium chloride for marine products and ethanol for industrial processes. For the cooling of products like fruits
and vegetables, no one of the previous types of ice slurry is adapted; this will cause the product contamination by the
used components (sodium chloride, ethanol, etc.).
The present paper studies the possibility of ice slurry generation with low contents of ethanol and sugar to the
cooling of different products. Binary or ternary aqueous solutions containing soluble carbohydrates (e.g. sucrose,
invert sugar, glucose (dextrose), fructose and other mono and disaccharides) with additions of ethanol, salts,
glycerol, etc. can be made (Fikiin et al, 2003).

2. EXPERIMENTAL MODEL
In figure 1, we can observe the four elements in the experimental model: compressor, condenser (tube-fin with
forced convection), expansion valve (thermostatic type) and evaporator (type submerged). In the evaporator the
refrigerant absorbs heat of the mixture (water, alcohol, and sugar.

2.1 Test Section
The test section is formed by the evaporator as showed in the Fig. 2 (a). The scraper and the mixer in the evaporator
are shown in detail (b, c in the Fig. 2), respectively.

Figure 2: Test section details.
The evaporator is of a type submerged, the coolant is an R-410A refrigerant, two agitators and a helical scraper
which is made of stainless steel.
The aqueous solution (with methanol and sugar) is placed within the evaporator to diminish the temperature of the
mixture and to obtain finally the ice slurries.
2.2 Data Acquisition System
The measurements and storage of data are made by the data acquisition system and a personal computer
(PC). The acquisition equipment which communicates with the PC by the RS232 communication port, receives,
processes and transmits the temperature signals to PC, for storage and posterior analysis. The data acquisition
system used was the OMEGA model Temp Scan 1100. For the temperature measurement were used four
thermocouples type K with diameter 0.017 mm.

Three thermocouples were placed into the ice slurry evaporator (bottom, middle and top position); the other
thermocouple was used to measure the external temperature.
3. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
Stage I: The water-sugar-ethanol mixture is placed within the evaporator to 25 ºC
Stage II: The data acquisition system and ice slurry generator were activated at the same time.
Stage III: Is observed the agglomeration in the ice slurry (in each test).
The duration of each test varies from 1 to 5 hours, depending of the test conditions. The data is acquired once a
second. If the ice slurry were not generated in 5 hours, the test was stopped. Uncertainties of the measurements are
presented in Table 1.

concentrations of 4.0; 7.14; 10.0; y 12.9 (% per mass). For each ethanol concentration, the concentration of sugar
was varied, maintaining constant the mixture mass (7 kg for each test).
4. RESULTS
The variation of the temperature of the ice slurries with the sugar and ethanol concentration can be observed in Fig

In fig 4, the variation of the generation time of the ice slurries with the sugar and ethanol concentration can be
observed. As it is increased the concentration of sugar and ethanol, the ice slurry generation time increases. Also it is
possible to be observed that for the case of the ethanol concentration of 1.4 (% per mass), the time of generation
remains considerably constant. This last test is considered the most optimal for the ice slurry generation with sugar
and ethanol.

5. CONCLUSIONS
As it is increased to the concentration of sugar and ethanol, the temperature of the ice slurry decreases.
As it is increased the concentration of sugar and ethanol, the ice slurry generation time increases.
The minimum concentrations of sugar and ethanol to ice slurry generation were of 4.0 and 1.4%,
respectively, this concentration is considered optimal to make future applications in the cooling process of
different product.
