Dr. Shrinivas Kashalikar discusses his experience with drinking ice cold water. While he has sometimes gotten colds after drinking it, he has not found a direct correlation. Theoretically, ice cold water could reduce blood flow to surfaces like the mouth and stomach. Recently, his joint pains reduced after stopping ice cold water. It is thought ice cold water can increase "vata" and "kapha" in the body, aggravating conditions like asthma, constipation, and joint pain. Avoiding ice cold water has no negative effects, while drinking room temperature water is absolutely safe.
