The document discusses the symbols found on the reverse of the one dollar bill, including two circles that make up the Great Seal of the United States which represents the progress and ideals of the young nation. It was designed by Benjamin Franklin and others over several years to represent concepts like an unfinished nation lit by the east and exploring the west, with the all-seeing eye symbolizing the need for divine guidance of many. The summary also mentions the surprising story of Haym Solomon, a little-known Polish Jew who helped fund the American Revolutionary War.

Green or eco-friendly products are products friendly to the environment and have a very little or nil impact on the environment. In the last few decades, the stricter rules and regulation and global pressure to mitigate and decrease the carbon emissions all over has encouraged the corporate to look into the issue of depleting natural resources and environmental diversity. These days, Green has become a password for companies to promote their products and services in the market. The study shows the consumers' perception about green or eco labelled products and their buying behaviour trends according to the availability or capability of the consumers. Obviously, an ethical business operation, production, and marketing of green products pursue a consumer to change his/ her buying decision and their perception about the products. Corporate may see this as an opportunity to enhance their brand value and make a competitive edge over their competitors. The respondents say about the gaps in innovation, research and development practices of government and corporate and how they eyewash consumers by the name of green and sustainable products/ services, especially in the developing and underdeveloped economies.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
Â
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

in development of education at all levels and for all levels. Dr
Pednekar was recently been awarded with the âBest Teacher

Jiyo Parsi
Dr. Zinobia Madan needs no introduction to members of IAS. Along
with Dr Parulkar, Dr. Madan is actively involved in getting medical
professionals to deliver lectures.
Recently she has been appointed as a Director to spear-head
a four year initiative of correcting infertility in Parsis, called Jiyo
Parsis, the scheme was launched by K. Rahaman Khan, Ministry
of Minority Affairs to increase the dwindling population of the
Parsi community in India. The Parsi community which has made
handsome contribution in diverse fields including business,
medicine, law, industry, music and arts is facing a real threat of
extinction.
APPEAL TO THE MEMBERS
As per the 2001 census data there are only 69600 Parsis in India.
The total population worldwide is 100,000. Estimates based on a 12
per cent decline per decade forecasts the population to dwindle to
36730 Parsis by 2050 and 19182 Parsis by the end of this century.
The government has sanctioned an amount of Rs.10 crore for Jiyo
Parsi scheme. This is in fact probably for the first time that the
government has launched a scheme to increase population. Most
of the time it is involved in cutting down the exploding population
growth !

12. Education
Technology
& Education
Ninad Karpe, MD & CEO, Aptech and the current CII Chairman,
Maharashtra State Council talks to Landmark on how technology
can be used to further the spread of education in India.
Ninad Karpe
Technology is a big leveller. How can it be used to tackle some
of the challenges faced in the education sector?
How can mobiles be used for reaching out to a wider audience ?
Technology can be used in multiple ways and at different target audience. From âlow cost, high valueâ mobile education to
âhigh definitionâ video lectures, technology can play a key role
in expanding the coverage of Education. New technologies
like CLOUD can ensure that a student can absorb education at
his time, place and convenience. In India, it will be particularly
more relevant as we look at an inclusive model of education,
reaching out to the economically and socially disadvantaged.
Today, around 13% of mobile phones are smart phones. These
smart phones are amenable to delivery and consumption of
m-education. There are a couple of trends which suggest that
m-education will revolutionize education in India -- increasing
adoption of smart phones, increasing mobile content, price reduction in mobile phones. Mobile technology is moving at a
rapid pace and in future, mobile phones will be used as a preferred tool to absorb education nuggets.
Can technology improve the teacher-student ratio in a meaningful manner ?
Yes, it can improve in a âvirtualâ sense. Lectures of expert teachers can now be leveraged by the use of technology to reach out
to a larger audience. Given the huge shortage of good teachers, lectures of the âstarâ teachers can be beamed to a much
larger audience.
Do you foresee virtual class rooms doing away with the need
for having more and more physical classrooms for spreading
education at the primary levels ?
In each region of India, there is a different maturity level of
technology and there will always be technology leaders in
urban centers, where virtual classrooms will become a reality
sooner than the other countries.
Keeping the basics unchanged do you feel educations can be
customized to local regions.
Yes, it needs to have a local flavor and context if education
seeks to connect with each and every student.
Is the Maharashtra government receptive to usage of technology to promote education ?
Yes, Maharashtra government is receptive in many ways -setting up computer based classes, digitization of content in
Marathi language, etc.

Who Was Haym Solomon?
Read this fascinating history of the $1 bill all the way to the bottom to know about Haym Solomon.
You may be in for quite a surprise!
If you look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully, you
will learn that it is on every National Cemetery in the United
States .
It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida
National Cemetery , and is the centerpiece of most heroesâ
monuments.
Slightly modified, it is the seal of the President of the United
States , and it is always visible whenever he speaks, yet very few
people know what the symbols mean.
On the rear of the One Dollar bill, you will see two circles.
Together, they comprise the Great Seal of the United States.
The First Continental Congress requested that Benjamin
Franklin and a group of men come up with a Seal. It took
them four years to accomplish this task and another two years
to get it approved.
If you look at the left-hand circle, you will see a Pyramid.
Notice the face is lighted,
and the western side is
dark. This country was
just beginning. We had
not begun to explore
the west or decided
what we could do for
Western Civilization. The
Pyramid is uncapped,
again signifying that we
were not even close to
being finished. Inside
the Capstone you have the all-seeing eye, an ancient symbol
for divinity. It was Franklin âs belief that one man couldnât do
it alone, but a group of men, with the help of God, could do
anything. âIN GOD WE TRUSTâ is on this currency.
The Latin above the pyramid, ANNUIT COEPTIS, means, âGod
has favored our undertaking.â
The Bald Eagle was
selected as a symbol for
victory for two reasons:
First, he is not afraid of a
storm; he is strong, and
he is smart enough to
soar above it.
Secondly, he wears no
material crown. We had
just broken from the
King of England .
Also, notice the shield is unsupported. This country can now
stand on its own.
At the top of that shield there is a white bar signifying
congress, a unifying factor. We were coming together as one
nation.
In the Eagleâs beak you will read, â E PLURIBUS UNUMâ meaning,
âfrom many - one.â
Above the Eagle, we have the thirteen stars, representing
the thirteen original colonies, and any clouds of
misunderstanding rolling away Again, we were coming
together as one.
Notice what the Eagle holds in his talons. He holds an olive
branch and arrows. This country wants peace, but we will never
be afraid to fight to preserve peace. The Eagle always wants to
face the olive branch, but in time of war, his gaze turns toward
the arrows.
The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM,
means, âa new order has begun.â
An (untrue) old-fashioned belief saysthat the number 13 is
an unlucky number. This is almost a worldwide belief. You
will almost never see a room numbered 13, or any hotels or
motels with a 13th floor. But think about this:
At the base of the pyramid is the Roman numeral for 1776.
(MDCCLXXVI)
America, which relies on God (not a number) to direct and
lead, boldly chose:

13 original colonies,
This was ordered byGeorge Washington who, when he
asked Haym Solomon, a wealthy Philadelphia Jew, what
he would like as a personal reward for his services to the
Continental Army. Solomon said he wanted nothing for
himself, but he would like something for his people. The Star
of David was the result. Few people know it was Solomon
who saved the Army through his financial contributions...
then died a pauper. Haym Solomon gave $25 million to save
the Continental Army, money that was sorely needed to
help realize America âs our-freedom and independence from
England .
13 signers of the Declaration of Independence ,
13 stripes on our flag,
13 steps on the pyramid,
13 letters in âAnnuit Coeptisâ,
13 letters in â E Pluribus Unum,â
13 stars above the eagle,
13 bars on that shield,
13 leaves on the olive branch,
Therein lies America âs Judeo-Christian beginning.
13 fruits, and if you look closely,
Most American children do NOT know any of this.
13 arrows.
And finally, notice the arrangement of the 13 stars in the
right-hand circle.
You will see that they are arranged as a
Star of David.
They are not taught because their history teachers do
NOT know this.
[They were not taught!]
On America âs Freedom:
Too many veterans gave up too much to let the meaning fade.
Many veterans came home to an America that did not care.
Too many veterans never came home at all.
They served, they died for you and for me.
I hope you will share this page with many-so they can learn
about the UNITED STATES DOLLAR BILL, and what it stands
for.
America is at a critical juncture.
Letâs do whatever we can to save her
while never, ever forgetting:
It is God in whom we put our trust!

The Indo-US relations- Taking it forward
Gateway House: Indian Council on
Global Relations recently hosted Nancy
Powell, the United States Ambassador
to India, in a candid conversation
with Zia Mody, Managing Partner of
AZB & Partners and T.V Mohandas Pai,
Chairperson of the Board of Manipal
Global Education Services.
The topic concerned the US-Indian
relationship and the three pillars on
which this partnership rests; growing
our bilateral ties, especially with private
sector investment and professional and student exchanges; greater
cooperation on regional and global priorities; and expanded
security cooperation.
Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations is a Mumbai
based, foreign policy think-tank established in 2009, to engage
Indiaâs leading corporations and individuals in debate and
scholarship on Indiaâs foreign policy and its role in global affairs.
Ambassador Powell discussed the greater potential in the bilateral
and the large number of dialogues already in progress. The
possibility of a five-fold increase in bilateral trade, up from the
current $100 billion to $500 billion in the next five years, was real,
she said.
