1) Jane Conrad met her future husband Pete at a debutante party in Philadelphia. They married in 1955 after Pete graduated from Princeton and lived in Jacksonville, Florida with their son Peter. 2) Pete was transferred to the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland to enter the Navy's new test pilot school. There, he and Jane lived in the community of North Town Creek. 3) During his time as a test pilot, Pete pushed aircraft to their limits and probed the outer edges of performance. However, the work was dangerous as one of his friends, Ted Whelan, died when his parachute failed during a jump from 8,100 feet.
