In this assignment, you have an opportunity to employ art history knowledge and comparative essay writing skills covered in this Module. You will choose a landscape artwork from Eastern culture—either Japanese or Chinese—and one Western landscape by a European or American artist. Both artworks should have been made around the same time, between the 11th and 17th centuries. You will then compare and contrast these two paintings created during the same time period but from different cultures, drawing on course vocabulary, contextual analysis, and formal analysis.

The Eastern (Asian) landscape tradition is markedly different from that of the Western (European). Traditional Asian artists intended to evoke meditative contemplation through visual imagery using atmospheric perspective, placement, and asymmetry. Eastern works also stress a reverence for nature and often include calligraphy or poetry as part of the primary subject. What ideas do European landscapes of the same time period convey?
For this assignment, you will choose one example each of paintings that represent the Eastern and Western landscape tradition from the same time period. In your essay, compare and contrast each work's individual similarities and differences and identify major contrasts in these two cultural approaches. Step 1: Research
First, conduct basic research on Eastern and Western landscape paintings and create a list that includes the major ways in which they are similar and different.
Then, using the

In this assignment, you have an opportunity to employ art history knowledge and comparative essay writing skills covered in this Module. You will choose a landscape artwork from Eastern culture—either Japanese or Chinese—and one Western landscape by a European or American artist. Both artworks should have been made around the same time, between the 11th and 17th centuries. You will then compare and contrast these two paintings created during the same time period but from different cultures, drawing on course vocabulary, contextual analysis, and formal analysis.

The Eastern (Asian) landscape tradition is markedly different from that of the Western (European). Traditional Asian artists intended to evoke meditative contemplation through visual imagery using atmospheric perspective, placement, and asymmetry. Eastern works also stress a reverence for nature and often include calligraphy or poetry as part of the primary subject. What ideas do European landscapes of the same time period convey?
For this assignment, you will choose one example each of paintings that represent the Eastern and Western landscape tradition from the same time period. In your essay, compare and contrast each work's individual similarities and differences and identify major contrasts in these two cultural approaches. For basic information on how to approach this comparative essay, visit the Module 5 Writing Skills page.
Step 1: Research
First, conduct basic research on Eastern and Western landscape paintings and create a list that includes the major ways in which they are similar and different.
Then, using the

sources or comparable sites, browse examples of both Eastern and Western landscape art and choose two examples that allow you to write a fully-developed essay based on three or more major points of comparison.
Consider the following questions as you brainstorm your comparisons:
What did each artist hope to accomplish with his or her work?
What aspect of the landscape did each artist most value?
Did the artists demonstrate personal connections with their landscapes, or were they conveying broader cultural messages?
Do the artworks represent attitudes towards nature that continue on today?
Explain each consideration in detail and refer directly to how they are demonstrated in the art itself.
Next, summarize the primary points you will address in one "thesis statement," which will appear as a sentence in your essay's introduction. Note that not all Eastern and Western landscapes will make strong enough statements to support a fully-developed essay. You may use Naxos (a bit easier to pinpoint the exact movement in a longer piece) or YouTube but you are responsible for providing the accurate url. 3. Beethoven was the son of a singer Johann Beethoven, in the service of the Elector of Cologne. His abusive father wanted to exploit his son’s musical gift and began a harsh musical training regimen. The court organist, C. G. Neefe, recognized his talent and gave him keyboard and composition lessons. He found Haydn a less than impressive teacher and began to study with other teachers, including Salieri and Albrechtsberger.
4. Beethoven was a virtuoso pianist and also played organ. He had learned violin as a young child.
5. Beethoven’s influence on music almost single-handedly ushered in the Romantic era. He transformed the symphony and the piano sonata and concerto by both expanding and adjusting the forms to a more Romantic mindset.
6. Beethoven’s earliest works were a continuation of the Viennese Classical tradition of Haydn and Mozart. In the early 1800’s, however, Beethoven began to expand and develop into a more Romantic style of composing and so he is the one co.

Comparison and Contrast of Renaissance to Now
People are social beings who seek to satisfy their wants and needs through creativity in social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual aspects. As times continue, the advancement gradually increases and, in the end, it marks a difference, which is normally called innovation. Europe is a good example of that, in several past centuries, there has been a difference between the Renaissance and contemporary society in the present day. The difference is that there is a significant development in morals and social behaviors that defines the limits of socialization with fellow people. On that note, the several values, knowledge, and skills that are relevant in our society today. Therefore, in this essay, it depicts that the two eras had technological advancement in artwork in the respective periods as described in the following paragraphs.
The two periods have a comparison in art. To comprehend that, art is expressed in literature, painting, music, and sculpture. In Renaissance time, advancement in art was crucial and played a major role in religion. Before the printing of the first book kin Germany, the most common literature material that was available was the bible though it was written in the Latin language (Panofsky, 2018). The problem is that no one would understand that; and therefore, a scholar such as Martin Luther translated the bible to a common language that would be understood by every. Moreover, the first press company in Gutenberg was established, Germany, which facilitate the tradition of literature. The advancement in literature became a tool to criticize both church and politics. Many books were printed rejecting the authority from Rome, which motivated for religious movements such as Pentecost.
Besides, it was a convenient way where an activist would pass thoughts against political ideology to insight people. The same thing in the time was are living; millions of copies are printed and sold concerning political and religion, for instance, newspapers the same case, books have because a platform for learners, authors, and all sorts of people to acquire or convey their ideas. Nevertheless, a noticeable difference is there due to the presence of technology. It is a fact that the two eras used a library where one would access a copy, but in the contemporary world, one can get off the access with a computer so-called softcopy. Moreover, the painting was much appreciated more than today mostly in Cathedrals. The master-piece work was fascinating and prominent leaders and people in the society were painted, which is the same case with photographs.

From the first week of this course, you were introduced to some of the major contributors to the Humanities in the fields of art, music, literature, and philosophy, to name a few.
In the Humanities Project, you will compare and contrast two figures of the Humanities, focusing on their contributions and achievements. You will choose some of the earliest figures dating as far back as the fourteenth century, all the way up to the twentieth century, and compare that figure to a current, but relevant figure of the humanities.
This project should reflect your understanding of these figures and their artistic flare that made them stand out among the rest. Based on research - explain how the earlier figure has influenced the current figure, and analyze how those contributions reflected the culture of each era.

1. Chapter one of Julian McDougall’s “Media Studies: The Basics” gives me an understanding of what media is and the history behind it, as well as the reasons why it is being studied in schools today. There are two points from the chapter that McDougall writes that stand out to me. The first one is when he gives reasons as to why one should study media. McDougall (2012) writes for his third reason, “...the idea that Media Studies might want to ‘change the world’” and later writes, “... then, studying media critically ought to be considered a serious and important project for any mature democracy” (p. 8). The explanation he gives for this being a reason to study media is something I completely agree with. Media has a great impact on what a person chooses to believe in and shapes the way they view others. Studying media and the way it works allows a person to become more literate when it comes to media, which in turn allows them to become aware of what the media is portraying and acknowledge any negative underlying messages that may be present that those who are unaware of how the media works, may miss. The second point that stands out is when he writes, “Theories of creativity are becoming more important to students of media as more and more ordinary people start to make their own media” (McDougall, 2012, p. 32). YouTube comes to mind when I think about people who make their own media. YouTube is a powerful platform where “ordinary” people have their own channels and create their own videos on whatever subject they are interested in like beauty, music, film etc. They give their own ideas and opinions on any subject they want to talk about or represent while giving their audience the choice of agreeing or disagreeing with what they have just watched. McDougall asks, “If we produce our own versions of media texts but stay faithful to the conventions of ‘real media,’ is this creative or just imitation? Or is all imitation an act of parody which is always creative, a reworking of a template and its meanings?” (p. 24). I believe media such as YouTube to be an imitation of ‘real media” since users produce their own versions of media texts and shape them into fitting what they want their message to be and like McDougall writes, this imitation is a “form of parody which is always creative” (p. 24).

Civil Liberties, Habeas Corpus, and the War on Terror
The final assignment for this course is a Final Paper. The purpose of the Final Paper is to give you an opportunity to apply much of what you have learned about American national government to an examination of civil liberties in the context of the war on terror. The Final Paper represents 20% of the overall course grade.
Soon after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, the Bush administration developed a plan for holding and interrogating captured prisoners. They were sent to a prison inside a U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, on land leased from the government of Cuba. Since 2002, over 700 men have been detained at Gitmo. Most have been released without charges or turned over to other governments. In 2011, Congress specifically prohibited the expenditure of funds to transfer Gitmo prisoners to detention facilities in the continental United States, making it virtually impossible to try them in civilian courts. As of April 2012, 169 remained in detention at Gitmo (Sutton, 2012).
An assumption made by the Bush administration in selecting this location was that it was beyond the jurisdiction of U.S. courts. The administration wanted to avoid any judicial oversight of how it handled detainees, characterized as enemy combatants. A possible legal challenge to indefinite detention with no formal charges or judicial proceedings might arise from the habeas corpus provision of the Constitution.
Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution states, "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it." Under this provision, persons detained by the government are entitled to a judicial hearing to determine if there is any legal basis for their detention. Some legal commentators refer to the right of habeas corpus as the "great writ of liberty" because it is a prisoner's ultimate recourse to an impartial judge who can review the possibility that he is being held illegally by the executive (e.g., the police o.

After the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan in 1989, Afghanistan become a paradise for the Taliban regime, which was able to extend its influence within the country after coming to power. During this period, the Taliban regime adopted in its authority the fundamentalist version of Islam and enabled the creation of AL-Qaeda camps where training fighters from inside and outside the country was taking place. From Afghanistan, AL-Qaeda had been able to find the safe place for planning an attack on the United State, which was considered to be the first enemy for Bin-laden who was the leader of Al-Qaeda. Bin Laden actually was able to take the opportunity and attacked the United States by the bombing of the twin towers of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. In response to 9/11, the US launched Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in October 2001 right after the attack. in The goal of that operation was to derive the Taliban from power and to destroy AL-Qaeda infrastructure and operations in Afghanistan. on September 12, the secretary general of NATO, Lord Robertson,
announced that the Alliance had invoked Article 5 of the Atlantic Charter for the first

In response to that announcement, Canada had decided to support the US military in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in October of 2001. At that time, the Canadian forces contained

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
