Limassol was built between two ancient Greek cities in the 10th century, taking its name from one of the cities, Neapolis. It came under English rule in the late 12th century when King Richard the Lionheart took control of Limassol after deposing its Byzantine ruler. The city grew and developed culturally under British Governor Colonel Warren in the 19th century through initiatives like road construction, tree planting, and establishing the first post office and printing press. Today, the fully equipped Linopetra Lyceum school located in Limassol engages in various extracurricular activities, including participating in national and international competitions, producing documentaries, and hosting exchange programs with other schools in Europe.
