Today I interviewed Melhi about the topic of how culture shapes our identi- ty and how French fries should be called Belgian fries.
Even though French fries are the product of Belgium’s genius they’re called French fries. Today I inter- viewed Melih and he can finally un- cover this mystery and tell us about himself.
He was born in Belgium but like a lot of us at UNIS he is a third culture kid. In fact He has never lived in Belgium and it has given him quite a unique outlook on the world
Although Melih is still a balloon waiting to explode when somebody says French fries are made in France. He likes sports because it makes him happy and helps him cheer up. His favorite sport is basketball as it makes him happy.
Because he has never lived in Belgium and has lived in other countries for his entire life and only sometimes visits Belgium he can see Belgium’s flaws. He said “people are really mean and you see them get tattoos at 10 years old.” Another thing I find interest- ing is that in a way Belgium is like Vietnam. Belgium is like Vietnam very urban from what I’ve found researching on the internet. Belgium is in fact one of the most densely populated countries in the world.
He is a single child and has described himself as being extremely self- ish and bossy. I asked him if he wanted a sibling and he doesn’t want one because he’s selfish and bossy which might not be the best traits for a bigger brother. Also because he is an only child Melih feels like he doesn’t need to take responsibility. I find strange because I would say that an only child would have more responsibilities because they take on both the roles of the first and last child.
Melih is an atheist and doesn’t really have any beliefs according to him. He also has no traditions which I find strange. Even though I’m also an atheist I still have traditions. It’s quite weird that he has no tra- ditions.
When I asked him where his home is and why he responded with an interesting answer. Instead of saying one place he responded home is wherever I feel comfortable
Being a single child and being a third culture kid has made him unique. It has made like bridge a between cultures. He truly has a unique view on life and it has made him different in a good way.
