•      It is planned and effective use of HR
    by an organization to help it to gain or
    maintain an edge over its competitors.
HR STRATEGY
    With changing nature of the business
environment, particularly with people-
increasing demand in variety of goods and
services, the nature of business are
changing fast. These changes are
demanding new types of business practices
and new way of managing employees.
Key Issues
Manpower Planning
    “Manpower planning is the strategy for the
acquisition, utilization, improvement and
prevention of an organizations human
resources. It is aimed at coordinating the
requirements for and the availability of
different types of employees”

Key Issues
•   Accuracy of Forecast
•   Support of Top Level Management
•   Uncertainties
•   Coordination with other Managerial
    Functions.
RECRUITMENT
“Recruitment is the process of searching for
  prospective employees and stimulating and
  encouraging them to apply for jobs in an
  organization”

Key Issues
• Economic Factors:
      Countries economic conditions
  influences the recruitment process of an
  organization.
Eg, LPG increased the demand for
  MBA/CA/B.Tech etc.
• Social Factors
     The mentality of modern employees has
  changed from „Just any Job‟ to a „satisfying
  career‟. This change came from past two
  decades.
• Technological Factors
  Eg. Banking, Electronics, Telecommunications

     New technologies creates new jobs and
     existing jobs have undergone rapid
     changes.
• Political Factors
      Influence of unions, recommendations of
  friends and relatives of management, political
  leaders etc. also plays an important role in
  recruitment policies followed by a concern.
CAREER PLANNING AND
    DEVELOPMENT
   Several environmental factors may upset
career planning and development efforts of the
organization.          E.g.         Government
policy,      reservation    policy,    regional
pressures, trade union demands.
Major issues
• Employment Employability: One of the HR
  issues in today's context is the constant
  upgradation of skills and knowledge if an
  employee has to constantly endeavor to be
  employable by the employer.
Major issues
• Careers: The traditional approach to
  employment was that of life long
  employment. Today‟s reality is that of job
  hopping. Individuals constantly move from
  organization to organization for better
  prospects, given the vast number of
  opportunities.
Major issues
• HR Diversity: This is an emerging issue
  with job reservations in government sector.
Major issues
• Training and Development: The training
  and development needs have increased and
  are going to increase further also.
