NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Defense attorneys for a former Vanderbilt football player who was
convicted in the dorm room rape of a student are asking a judge to declare a mistrial in the case.
According to The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1EMRBSz ), Brandon Vandenburg's lawyers have filed
a motion claiming a juror in his trial intentionally withheld information that he was a rape victim
during the jury selection process so he Texas lawyers could serve on the jury. The lawyers claim the
juror was biased in his verdict.
Vandenburg is currently jailed, awaiting a June sentencing. A Nashville jury in January convicted
him and former player Cory Batey of multiple counts of aggravated rape and sexual battery for the
June 2013 campus assault of an unconscious female student. Two other former players are awaiting
trial.
