This document describes using Hadoop and MapReduce to analyze an NFL play-by-play dataset. It discusses loading the data into HDFS, cleaning and transforming the raw play data using custom MapReduce jobs, and setting up tables in Hive to allow querying the data using SQL. The document also briefly mentions using Impala for faster queries and Sentry for authorization with Hive and Impala.
The document summarizes the process of creating a sustainable fabric wrap for the 2012 London Olympic Stadium. Key points:
1. Dow Chemical, Rainier Industries, and Cooley Group partnered to develop a fabric wrap using sustainable materials and processes that met the specifications for wrapping the stadium.
2. Creating the wrap involved significant problem-solving as the initial materials did not meet standards. Dow and Cooley developed a new formulation for the fabric.
3. Producing the fabric proved challenging as well and required multiple attempts to get a smooth, defect-free material through the extrusion process used to apply the various layers of the fabric.
4. After several iterations, the team was finally able to produce
Ontologies in multi-agent systems for building design. The case of risk manag...Matteo Caglioni
Use of spatial modelling in civil engineering in the past has been limited by the aptitude of models to deal only with macro level behaviours, which is inappropriate for the detail level considered in construction engineering. Multi Agents Systems (MAS) allow us to treat simulations and scenarios taking into account micro-behavioural specificities of the agents. In this paper we propose the ontology of these agents with their different behaviours, and the semantic enrichment of the building elements that we can consider in the case study of a stadium. Moreover, we want to show how the design project of this building can benefit of indications coming from several multi-agent simulations, in order to manage emergency situations (e.g. panic conditions among the spectators).
The Emirates Stadium in London is the new home of Arsenal Football Club. It has a capacity of over 60,000 and cost £400 million to build. Sika provided various products for waterproofing the roof, repairing and finishing concrete floors, and providing hygienic flooring for kitchen areas. Sikafloor and Sarnafil systems were selected and installed on time to meet the project requirements.
ESL Speed Quiz #1 (Designed for Korean Students)Stephanie Dodson
This is a speed quiz game designed for Korean high school students. My students really enjoyed this activity.
Materials: Computer/TV setup, PowerPoint slides, stopwatch, chalkboard.
Procedure:
1) Divide students into teams.
2) Request two volunteers to serve as timekeeper and scorekeeper, respectively. They can switch roles with other players later.
3) The teams will take turns sending one player to sit in front of the TV screen. During a player's turn, he/she may not look at the screen. Once the player is seated, display the first PowerPoint slide on the screen, and say "GO!"
4) The player's teammates will describe the picture in English. Players may not use gestures, words that appear in the title (e.g. "lion" for "Lion King"), Korean words, or names of real people. For every picture that the player guesses correctly, the team will get one point. If students don't know an item, they can say "PASS!"
5) The player will have one minute to name as many pictures as he/she can. After one minute, the timekeeper should yell "STOP!"

1) A data warehouse is a collection of data from multiple sources used to enable informed decision making. It contains data, metadata, dimensions, facts and aggregates.
2) The typical processes in a data warehouse are extract and load, data cleaning and transformation, user queries, and data archiving.
3) The key components that manage these processes are the load manager, warehouse manager and query manager. The load manager extracts, loads and does simple transformations on the data. The warehouse manager performs more complex transformations, integrity checks and generates summaries. The query manager directs user queries to the appropriate data.
The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, is located in Beijing, China. It has three floors and is 226 feet tall. It was designed by Herzog & De Meuron and engineered by Ove Arup & Partners to withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 8. The stadium's steel lattice exterior and separate concrete interior allow the two structures to move independently during seismic activity without damaging the stadium. The Bird's Nest can seat over 91,000 spectators across its eight individual concrete seating sections.

Stadiums That Changed The Game. The Presentation shows and describes the structures and construction details of some of the world's most re knowned stadiums ie: Eden Gardens (Kolkata), Lord's, MCG, Bird's Nest, Cape Town Stadium and Maracana Stadium (Brazil).
Domes and vaults are architectural elements that provide covered interior spaces. Domes are rounded vaults that can be made from curved masonry segments or a shell of revolution. Vaults are ceilings constructed from materials like brick, stone or concrete arranged in an arched manner. Common types of domes include hemispherical domes, geodesic domes, and onion domes. Elements of domes include features like coffering, pendentives, and lanterns. Vaults have been used since ancient times by civilizations like the Romans and Egyptians and include styles like barrel vaults and groin vaults.

The document discusses the structural systems used in the Olympic Stadium built for the 2012 London Olympics. The stadium features several different structural systems, including a steel skeletal structure, rigid concrete frames with reinforcement, and prefabricated concrete. It also uses external steel bracing and bolted joints between elements. The steel structure supports the cable net roof and transfers loads through the various structural elements to the foundation of 5,000 piles. The document provides details on the different structural components and materials used to construct the lightweight and efficient stadium structure.
The document discusses different types of houses and buildings, including:
1. Detached houses which are free-standing residential buildings surrounded by gardens, often found in less dense urban areas and suburbs.
2. Semi-detached houses which consist of pairs of houses built side by side that share a party wall.
3. Terraced houses which are a row of identical or mirror-image houses that share side walls.
4. Other buildings discussed include bungalows, blocks of flats, penthouses, mansions, country houses, stately homes, townhouses, mobile homes, stilt houses, wigwams, and tepees.
The newly constructed Beijing Olympic Stadium which will host the opening ceremony for the Games and other track and field events. It's also called "Bird's Nest".
The Clark County School District held a career fair with 200 open jobs, including teachers, substitutes, and transportation roles. The local unemployment rate was 7.1%, with over 73,000 job seekers. Several other upcoming job fairs were mentioned as opportunities for job seekers. Las Vegas' recovery from the recession has been slower than other cities due to its reliance on construction and hospitality industries that were hit hard, and because a majority of its workforce lacks college degrees.
Sepp Blatter criticized the federal investigation into FIFA corruption as bringing "shame and humiliation" to soccer, but said change is needed. Several soccer officials were arrested as part of probes by U.S. and Swiss authorities into World Cup bidding and long-running corruption. UEFA wants to postpone FIFA's presidential election on Friday, but Asian and African soccer bodies reiterated support for Blatter to serve another term despite the turmoil.

House-passed bill would speed payments to veterans
1. House-passed bill would speed payments to veterans
WASHINGTON -- A bill passed by the House on Tuesday would speed federal payments to veterans
with complex claims for benefits.
The "pay as you rate" bill would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to make payments to
veterans as components of their claims are processed rather than waiting for the entire case to be
completed.
Bill sponsor Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., said the average benefits claim for veterans who served in Iraq
and Afghanistan contains eight components. She said the bill "will allow veterans to receive at least
some of the benefits they earned in a timely manner."
The measure passed 419-0 in a bundle of other veterans-related legislation, including a 2016 cost-o-
-living increase for benefits paid by the VA.
2. Another bill in the group would establish a nationwide practice of observing two minutes of silence
on Veterans Day "in honor of the service and sacrifice of veterans throughout the history of the
nation."
