Charter outcomes powerpoint presentation 2014 Q3Charter Housing
This document summarizes Charter's outcomes for the third quarter of 2014 from October to December. It provides a link to a Prezi presentation with further details on the quarterly monitoring of outcomes and notes that a PowerPoint version with screenshots from the Prezi was also created for accessibility. Contact information is provided for any issues accessing or using the reports.
The student learned new skills using Adobe Premier software to edit their preliminary task. They cut out repetitive footage to make the film continuous, as required. They also learned new camera angles which they used to make the film look more professional. The editing and different camera angles helped ensure the task met the criteria and brief.
We analysed the opening credits of 'Panic Room', we analysed the billing of the characters names within the movie, and also when the film title itself appears.
This document lists and briefly describes the various jobs that are credited in the opening credits of films. These include director, screenwriters, producers, executive producers, main cast, casting director, director of photography, production designer, film editor, music composer, costume designer, visual effects supervisor, and title. It then provides more details on the roles of directors, screenwriters, producers, executive producers, casting directors, film editors, music composers, costume designers, visual effects supervisors, motion picture companies, and film distributors. It also mentions two British animation and film production companies, Aardman Animations and Heyday Films.
The document discusses how the filmmakers represented social groups in their film. They decided to target teenage girls ages 13-19 because the filmmakers were teenagers who knew what interests teenagers. The film is about girls dealing with eating disorders and bullying, which stereotypically impact more girls. However, the filmmakers note these issues can impact anyone. They tried to make the film relatable to teenagers while also addressing serious issues.
This document invites startups to cooperate with Sanoma Pro, a company that provides educational solutions in Finland. Sanoma Pro can offer startups access to the Finnish K-12 market, as well as pedagogical and business expertise. In return, Sanoma Pro expects startups to help accelerate digital transformation, provide a more diverse offering, and create new growth opportunities. The first event for startups to meet with Sanoma Pro representatives will take place on February 12, 2015 at the Finnish Science Centre.
This article describes a newly discovered fossil flower, named Euanthus panii, found in the Middle-Late Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation in Liaoning, China. Euanthus displays characteristics of modern flowers, including sepals, petals, tetrasporangiate dithecate anthers, and enclosed ovules. This provides strong evidence that typical flowering plants existed in the Jurassic period, earlier than previously thought. The discovery suggests flowers may have evolved earlier and pushes back the timeline of flowering plant origins.

Schools and digital learning: Ready, willing and able?Sanoma Learning
This document discusses a presentation given by John Martin, the CEO of Sanoma Learning, at the Frankfurt Buchmesse in October 2014. The presentation discusses how schools and teachers are ready and willing but feel unequipped for digital learning. Research shows that teachers believe digital learning can improve outcomes, engagement, and efficiency but they lack sufficient budget, equipment, training, and materials. Teachers see publishers playing a key role in providing digital content and support to help with student engagement, learning outcomes, and teacher efficiency. The opportunity for educational publishers is to show more leadership in guiding the transition to digital learning by developing dynamic digital content, supporting workflow, utilizing advanced analytics, and providing professional support.
The document analyzes conventions used in several films that could help make their own student film feel realistic. It discusses camera shots and music used in Skyfall to set mood. For their own film, the students used long shots, medium close ups, and close ups, along with lingering shots, to create a sad effect. Kidulthood used simple text that didn't reflect the social realism genre, which the students also did. Seven used diegetic sounds and added non-diegetic music for the credits to set mood, which the students replicated. The Devil Wears Prada used costume, lighting, acting, makeup and setting to distinguish character types, which the students considered but didn't directly compare characters, wanting to show their

Teachers in Finland have a positive attitude towards using digital educational materials and IT equipment in the classroom, believing it can enrich learning and modernize teaching. However, many teachers feel unprepared and lack sufficient resources like hardware, materials, budgets, and training to incorporate digital learning effectively. While most schools have access to technologies like video projectors and computers, teachers hope for more time to develop new lesson plans and personalized instruction. To fully realize the benefits of digital learning, stakeholders must work together to provide teachers proper tools, balance new pedagogies with creativity and efficiency, and ensure all students and educators receive necessary training.
Machine Learning for Non-technical Peopleindico data
Machine learning is one of the most promising and most difficult to understand fields of the modern age. Here are the slides from Slater Victoroff's (CEO of indico) talk at General Assembly Boston for non-technical folks on how to separate the signal from the noise -- stay tuned for the next time he speaks:

Deep generative models are making progress in modeling complex, high-dimensional data in an unsupervised manner. Two promising approaches are variational autoencoders (VAEs) and generative adversarial networks (GANs). VAEs impose a prior on the code space to regularize and allow for sampling, while GANs use a generator and discriminator in an adversarial training procedure. Recent work has focused on extensions of these models, including conditional generation and combining aspects of VAEs and GANs. However, generative modeling of natural images remains challenging, with models still underfitting the complexity of unconstrained data.

Fabular Frames and the Four Ratio ProblemMajid Iqbal
Digital, interactive art showing the struggle of a society in providing for its present population while also saving planetary resources for future generations. Spread across several frames, the art is actually the rendering of real and speculative data. The stereographic projections change shape in response to prompts and provocations. Visitors interact with the model through speculative statements about how to increase savings across communities, regions, ecosystems and environments. Their fabulations combined with random noise, i.e. factors beyond control, have a dramatic effect on the societal transition. Things get better. Things get worse. The aim is to give visitors a new grasp and feel of the ongoing struggles in democracies around the world.
Stunning art in the small multiples format brings out the spatiotemporal nature of societal transitions, against backdrop issues such as energy, housing, waste, farmland and forest. In each frame we see hopeful and frightful interplays between spending and saving. Problems emerge when one of the two parts of the existential anaglyph rapidly shrinks like Arctic ice, as factors cross thresholds. Ecological wealth and intergenerational equity areFour at stake. Not enough spending could mean economic stress, social unrest and political conflict. Not enough saving and there will be climate breakdown and ‘bankruptcy’. So where does speculative design start and the gambling and betting end? Behind each fabular frame is a four ratio problem. Each ratio reflects the level of sacrifice and self-restraint a society is willing to accept, against promises of prosperity and freedom. Some values seem to stabilise a frame while others cause collapse. Get the ratios right and we can have it all. Get them wrong and things get more desperate.

In a tight labour market, job-seekers gain bargaining power and leverage it into greater job quality—at least, that’s the conventional wisdom.
Michael, LMIC Economist, presented findings that reveal a weakened relationship between labour market tightness and job quality indicators following the pandemic. Labour market tightness coincided with growth in real wages for only a portion of workers: those in low-wage jobs requiring little education. Several factors—including labour market composition, worker and employer behaviour, and labour market practices—have contributed to the absence of worker benefits. These will be investigated further in future work.

OJP data from firms like Vicinity Jobs have emerged as a complement to traditional sources of labour demand data, such as the Job Vacancy and Wages Survey (JVWS). Ibrahim Abuallail, PhD Candidate, University of Ottawa, presented research relating to bias in OJPs and a proposed approach to effectively adjust OJP data to complement existing official data (such as from the JVWS) and improve the measurement of labour demand.
