The Sahara desert is one of the hottest deserts on Earth. It covers a massive area of northern Africa, including parts of 11 countries, with temperatures often exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Sand dunes and rocky plains with very little vegetation dominate the landscape of the Sahara, though oases can be found in some areas that support limited communities.
