What is Geography?

Geography is quite an open ranged subject, there
is no exact group of words to describe what
Geography is.

 Dictionary Meaning: The study of the physical
feature of the earth and of human activity.

 Online meaning: Geography is the study of the
    earth’s landscapes, people, places,
environments, your back yard (in some cases)
    and trees.
Why study Geography
Why study Geography? There are many great
reasons why:
 When going into high school, History will make a
  lot more sense to you
 You won’t get lost as easily, compared to people
  who haven’t studied Geography
(Because you will know how to read a map)
 To understand the basic system that effect
  everyday life
E.G. The earth, the sun, water cycles, the wind,
ocean currents, natural disasters, the environment
and the mother nature we take for granted
Can you explain your Country?
Have you ever thought of if someone came to
Australia, that has never been to Australia and you
have to guide them around each and every State and
tell them a natural landmark and a man made
 landmark, could you do it?
 GIVE it a go

by the way it has been made.

Natural Landmark~ The surf beaches. The surf
beaches have great waves and soft sand.
The Ocean Grove Park
How have humans changes the natural environment?
The humans have changed the park by creating a walking track
around the out-skirts of the park, a fair size playground, as well as
sport facilities, signs, benches, a cricket pitch, fences, Gazebos, half
a basketball court, picnic tables and finally a car park.
How have these changes beneficial?
They have made entertainment for all ages by having a
playground, cricket pitch and sports facilities. Also by having a
walking track they attracted the public to keep fit, and enjoy the
park.
What impact do these changes have on the environment?
They have cut down many trees to create an open space so that
means lots of natural wildlife have no homes. The birds don’t sing
as loud and it properly doesn’t have the same atmosphere as it did
before humans altered it.
Ocean Grove park

How would this place have looked before humans altered it?
A large landscape filled with trees soring high, birds singing,
families having picnics and dogs going wild and crazy.
What type of person were the creators of the park trying to
attract-how do you know? Is there a cultural bias in the set up of
the park?
Young families with young children because they is a playground,
the public because they is a walking track and children because
there is sport facilities and fit people. Australian's because they are
quite laid back (meaning they is nothing that jumps out at you, for
example: crocodiles and etc..)
Blue Waters Lake
How have humans changes the natural environment?
They have created a path circling the lake, put new trees in to make
it feel natural, sighs, sewerage pipes, fences, picnic tables, a
smallish bridge, drains and they have cut trees down.
How have these changes beneficial?
More people can enjoy the lake by being able to walk around it
and people are also able to keep fit by running a full lap of the lake
and that is 1500m. They are also seats so you are able to go for a
walk then have a break.
What impact do these changes have on the environment?
They are ruining and taking away wildlife and animal homes. The
public are living on the edges of the lake and they have got rid of
trees so they can have access to the lake from their houses.
Blue Waters Lake
How would this place have looked before humans altered it?
Lots and lots of trees everywhere and you wouldn’t really be able
to see the lake and heaps of natural wildlife leisurely walking
around.
What type of person were the creators of the park trying to
attract-how do you know? Is there a cultural bias in the set up of
the park?
Everyone, the lake has know real hints tell you who the age
purpose is, the public because there is a track to walk around and
your dogs are free to roam with you and it is a great place to go for
a family bike ride.
