My name is Nguyen Tuan Linh. I am an editor at Hoa Hoc Tro Magazine, a
renowned Vietnamese magazine for pupil from 1991. I am writing with great
pleasure to recommend Ms. Dao Thuy Van to your university so that you can
gain a better understanding of her. I have been working with Van for 2 years
starting from 2011. I was also the one who interviewed her when she applied
for a part time position with the Magazine. In this very first meeting, I realized
that Van was a competent candidate and had the potential of being a
journalist. Being impressed with her creative thinking and her tendency to
always try to think out of the box, I decided to give her the offer and become
her mentor myself
llan's personality demonstrates a sociable girl who is polite, intelligent, and
diligent and stops at little to excel herself Many times did she have to change
the whole articles that I strictly required her to in a patient manner. However,
she knew how to preserve her point of view in the articles thus showing her
own style which cannot be easily mistaken to other journalists. Other
contractors often quit after being asked to moderate their articles. I highly
value Van's professionalism, with which she communicates effectively with
other producers and contractors who think of Van as a nice, fun and modest
person.
Regarding her capabilities, I am confident in her affinity with Journalism.
Firstly, she has been well equipped after 2 years of working in our
organization, an advantage which cannot be easily gained by any other high
school students. Secondly, Van is obsessed with reading and writing and
relentlessly learns to excel her skills, a characteristic that is rather rare among
students. She is also cooperating with the newspaper during her high school
time in Pennsylvania. In addition, she is able to adapt situations quickly and
her problem solving skills provides herself new ideas most of the time. For
example, she does not only listen to criticisms but also tests out different

2. solutions passionately in a professional manner. Moreover, she possesses a
team spirit which has been proven through her recognized co-op works with
other contractors.
Currently, Ms Van's articles have been known by millions of Vietnamese
students. I recall her first article on publication #990 which was released 1
month since her recruitment, which was during Christmas. Ms. Van was paid
VND 600.000 for her l-page work. For a part-time working student that was
outstanding.
Of course there still are a few flaws, which often being seen in young people,
such as unrealistic ideas which sometimes go against basic principles.
However, I believe that she will improve herself as she progresses through her
profession.
Being her mentor in professional media, I am confident in my comments on
Van. I hope you will accept her application and let her pursue the career and
dream she longs for. I wish her the best in her chosen university and our
newspaper would gladly to have her back when she finishes her degree.
